[Samba] Problem with /home and winbind

2004-03-03 Thread John Simovic
Can anybody tell me why when i use pam_mkhomedir to create winbind users
home directories on the fly under /home/%D/%U it disallows access to users
when logged in under windows but works fine when I point their home drives
(as an experiment) to /tmp? How can I fix it so that it works the same under
/tmp as it does under /home? Using Samba 3.0.2 security = ads.
Kind regards in advance.

Check that the realm is mapped correctly to the KDC machine, via
kerberos config files or _kerberos DNS entries.

[Samba] ADS Samba

2003-12-23 Thread John Simovic
Hello all, I am currently using Samba 2.2.8 in a production environment and it is only
achieving winbind for me at the moment which is working great. What I would like is to
be able to mount windows shares under linux so that each user who logs on under linux
can get their windows home drive mounted for them exclusively. Can Samba 3 do this for
me using something such as folder redirection on the windows side or any other method.
ANy documentation on this would be gladly appreciated.

Kind Regards and Merry Christmas to all!

My problem is that I am using rh 8 and cannot winbind to authenticate users. wbinfo

 So far:

Several people are trying to get pam_mount working with winbind. I don't
have a winbind setup myself, so it is difficult for me to debug. Please be
 patient.

The only hypothesis I have at this point revolves around pam_mounts use of
functions like getpwnam to retrieve information about a user's account.
Theoretically, if one configures /etc/nsswitch.conf correctly, getpwnam can
use services besides /etc/passwd (ie: winbind) to answer questions about a
 user.
Pam_mount uses getpwnam to do the following:

 1. Determine where ~/.pam_mount.conf is.

 2. Determine the UID and GID that should own a mount point created by
 pam_mount.

 3. Determine the UID and GID that should own a user's session count file
 (/var/run/pam_mount/user).

 4. Ensure a user owns mount points and volumes for volumes defined by
 ~/.pam_mount.conf.

The only other suspect action I can think of is pam_mount's retrieval of a
user's password from the PAM system. I don't think this should be an issue
if you use pam_winbind to authenticate users.

Do any of these hints help?
