[Samba] Powerpoint 2007 not advancing slides
Hi Everyone Samba 3.6.7 on OpenSuse 12.2 x86_64 I have an unusual problem for which I have not been able to find a solution on the Internet. With Powerpoint 2003, there was no issue. With Powerpoint 2007, the user cannot advance slides unless the file is saved locally on the client (Windows XP SP3, ntfs filesystem). When the file is loaded from the samba share, the user can edit and save their powerpoint. They simply cannot run a slideshow. Regardless of the slideshow settings, you cannot advance to the next slide. Any assistance would be appreciated. [Samba] Samba support for ADM files
Hi What I would like to do is have my custom adm files in a shared folder on my samba server so that if I make a change, it updates the windows XP clients on my network in a similar fashion to active directory on a windows server. However, I cannot seem to find any support for this in samba in the documentation I have read. Do I have to go to each machine and use group policy editor to load the adm file? Am I missing something or is this going to be a feature of samba 4? Have a look at http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Implementing_System_Policies_with_Samba This should give you some basic insight on how it all works. You can convert existing .adm templates, or write your own ones, to be used with system policies by removing appropriate #if version statements. Note that system policies have several limitations, i.e. will only be synced upon domain logon - i.e. background refresh or boot-time refresh will not work, and they will lack some of the rich features of GPO. They also work on registry tatooing principle so reverting a policy is more tricky. We have been using system policies for some time and they work pretty well (if you acknowledge their limitations). I have written a small tool that can be run as a startup script, or at any time, which will convert existing NTConfig.pol data into Local GPO information - this might save you the effort of manual adjusting Local GPO's on every machine. [Samba] Shared Folder Stop users altering subfolder structure
I am working in a school where each class has a class logon eg class1, class2 etc. and in smb.conf each class is directed to their own folder on the server eg /shared/class1, /shared/class2 etc. When a pupil navigates to their class folder on the server, they see subfolders for each pupil in the class eg sid_smith, joe_bloggs etc. They then navigate to their named folder to load/save their work. My problem is I seem unable to stop pupils changing the folder structure, ie deleting, moving or copying a folder. eg sid_smith becomes a subfolder in joe_bloggs.
