[Samba] Share a directory via NFS and Samba at the same time not possible

2007-06-11 Thread Laurenz, Dirk
Hello Folks,

i'have a problem share a directory to both unix(nfs) and windows(samba).
The main problem is, that the rights are associated to winbind groups.
the user in question can access the files from windows correctly and
locally correctly (via su -$USER). If i mount the directory via nfs and
make a su - $USER i can't write to the directory. when calling getfacl $DIR
i can see, that non of the winbind groups are resolved. Only the ldap
groups are resolved. for every winbind group is only the gidnumber shown.
Why are those groups not resolved via nfs?

Have you added winbind to nsswitch.conf ?

RE: [Samba] Share a directory via NFS and Samba at the same time not possible

2007-06-11 Thread Laurenz, Dirk
Hi,

does this mean that the client resolves groupnames?

The problem is, even if squashing all nfs clients to a uniq userid
(anonuid=,anongid=xxx,all_squash)
even doesn't help. from my point of view, only the nfs server is responsible
for resolving
groupmemberships (cause the client is mapped to a uniq userid).
But even this doesn't work.

The problem must be somewhere between the client and the AD Server.
- Is the client joined into the domain, as well as the NFS server ?
- wbinfo -t -g ok ?
- winbind running on client ?
Try troubleshooting the communication between the client and AD.

RE: [Samba] Share a directory via NFS and Samba at the same time not possible

2007-06-11 Thread Laurenz, Dirk
Hi,
nope. Because those systems are still alone. The idea is, to
map all incomming nfs trafic to one uid (all_squash,anonuid=,anongid=xxx).
I think that in this case it doesn't matter, if the client
uses the same idmap backend or not. Is this correct so far?

You did install winbind and nss_winbind on the NFS client
and have it correctly share its idmap via some central
 mechanism?

[Samba] [smbd4wins] wins hook - ttl so long ?

2007-05-23 Thread Laurenz, Dirk
Hi folks,

i've a question about the ttl, which my wins hook script gets from
smbd4wins:

I record many entries with extrem high ttls like

refresh $SERVER 20 1181977528 $IPADDRS...

the ttl of 1181977528 means ~13.000 days which is very long.

if i look into the ldb itself, there's an expiry time of ~ 24days
(16.06.2007).

dn: name=$SERVER,type=0x20
[...]
expireTime: 20070616070528.0Z
[...]
address: $IP;winsOwner:$IP;expireTime:20070616070528.0Z;

Why is the difference so big?

I want to use the ttl, which wins deliveres as the default ttl for dns.

I'd guess that 1181977528 is the unix style time, it would
 translate to 16.06.2007 09:05

And this sounds a lot more reasonable :-)

BTW, 1181977528 is probably quite exactly these 13.000 days
 since 1.1.1970...

[Samba] RE: Samba installation error

If you just want to share some files, version 2 will fit your needs.
So skip the part installing samba and continue with setting it up from the
howto.

Subject: RE: Samba installation error

hello Dirk,

thanks for the info. Sorry, im new to the Linux World.
I just wanted to ask, will the samba2.that comes with my RedHat9.2
installation work for what I want to achieve(to connect my LinuxPC to my
Windows PC so that I can exchange files between the two?) - im asking so that I
dont uninstall Samba2 and begin to have problems installing the new version.

Also, you said it has to be configured via command line, swat or
webmin how do I configure it?

thanks
Toks

Hi,

at first, use the default samba mailing list ([EMAIL PROTECTED])
second, you have to uninstall samba first, before installing the new
release.
rpm -e samba-2.
rpm -ivh samba-3.
or use the redhat package manager or kde packagemanager (kpackage)

third, you won't find any samba icon, it has to be configured via
command line, swat or webmin.
hope this helps

[Samba] dos filetimes = yes is not correctly used? - utime function calls fail (Version 3.0.7)

2004-11-10 Thread Laurenz, Dirk
Hello everbody,

this is really urgent.
at the moment the status is as follows:
We changed the primafy group to a group without german characters: ä,ü,ö.
It works fine, as long as the primary group as full access to the file.
If not, it doesn't work.

The Problem in detail:
Situation 1:
User is member of DOMAIN+GROUP.
DOMAIN+GROUP is owner of file
utime is called and everything is fine

Situation 2:
User is member of DOMAIN+GROUP
DOMAIN+GROUP has only full access via posix acl
utime is called and fails

Situation 3:
User is member of DOMAIN+GROUP
DOMAIN+GROUP is member of local group group_rw
group_rw has only full access via posix acl
utime is called and fails

I found one article on the net concerning this problem:
http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba-technical/2004-February/034230.html

Has anyone a solution for this problem?
The directive dos filetimes = yes must be working fine with posix acl. E.g
Situation 3 must be
working fine and is the preffered setup.

Will 3.0.8 solve this issue?

If i create a file and user1 opens it, the access times are reset correctly. (same

i have the following error message:

-| Subject: [Samba] samba 3.0.7 on linux 2.6.8.1 with gigabit
-| = very slowupload speed
-|
-| Here's the problem in a nutshell:
-|
-| One samba-server (stand alone)
-| A couple of Windows XP (sp2) clients
-| All connected through a gigabit network
-|
-| Transfers between two of the windows computers works just
-| fine and the
-| speed is about 20-30MB/s.
-| Transfers from the server to any windows computer also
-| works fine and
-| has the same speed.
-| Transfers TO the server from any windows computer is horribly slow
-| (under 1MB/s).
-| BUT if a try to unpack a rar-file using winrar directly to
-| the server
-| the transfer speed is the normal 20-30MB/s.
-|
-| The specifics:
-|
-| I've used the word upload as transfering a file from a
-| windows client
-| to smb-server. And download is the opposite of course.
-|
-| Samba server:
-| Athlon 64 with 1,5 gig of ram. The problem occurs with both
-| slackware
-| 10, default install (32bit) and with a 64-bits compile of
-| gentoo. I've
-| also tested with slackwares precompiled samba-package
-| (3.0.4), compiling
-| the soure 3.0.7 under both slackware and 64-bit gentoo. But
-| the upload
-| speed is consistent.
-|
-| Clients:
-| Barton 2500+ and better. 512Mb ram or more.
-|
-| Network:
-| Gigabit copper. There's no other problem with the network.
-| No packet
-| errors or other to indicate any hardware trouble. Testing
-| to run nfs
-| from a linux-client against the samba-server gives a
-| transfer speed (in
-| both directions) of 40MB/s.
-|
-| What I've tried so far:
-| ---
-| When the problem occurs, ie. uploading a file to the
-| server, none of the
-| cpus are working more than 2-3%. There's no strange output
-| in the samba
-| logfiles or any indication of network troubles (like
-| collisions, packet
-| errors and so on).
-|
-| I dumped a download and an upload with tcpdump and looked
-| at it with
-| ethereal. But i couldn't see anything strange except one
-| thing. I know
-| too little about the smb-protocoll to dicide whether the
-| logs indicate a
-| problem or not but they are included at the bottom in case
-| anyone has
-| any suggestions.
-|
-| I have also tried a lot of configuration options. Including default
-| configuration, sendfile on/off, and a bunch of different
-| protocoll and
-| tuning options. But it doesn't seem to make any difference,
-| at least not
-| for the upload speed.
-|
-| Uploading multiple files in parallell helps a little but the total
-| upload speed never goes above 3MB/s.
-|
-| To exclude some of the hardware on the server I have also tried
-| uploading files to a ram-disk (using ramfs) but it didn't change
-| anything but the download speed.
-|
-| TCPdump files
-| --
-| I only exported a litte piece of the transfer. If there's something
-| missing let me know.

Hi,

what i found is, that samba really tries to set the old time:

14:54:09 utime(PATH/file, [2004/11/01-14:53:16, 2004/11/01-14:53:16]) = -1 EPERM

RE: [Samba] Problem with 3.0.7 - set_filetime

2004-11-01 Thread Laurenz, Dirk
Hi,

it seems to if the user has the primary group Domänen-Benutzer
(missdisplayed as:
getent group | awk -F':' '{print $1 , $3}' | grep Benutzer |grep 1
DOM+Domänen-Benutzer,1
)
and here the id output of the user:
AGESTT74:/etc/samba # su - DOM+testuser
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc/samba id
uid=1(DOM+fscadmin) gid=1(DOM+Domänen-Benutzer) groups=

If the primary group is something else like e.g. DOM+testgroup everything seems to
be fine.
I'm working on that issue.

How can i get the Group DOM+Domänen-Benutzer displayed correctly as Domänen-Benutzer?

RE: [Samba] Linux and samba server + Mac OS Clients on LAN

2004-10-14 Thread Laurenz, Dirk
Hi,

i think newer versions of mac os support smb/cifs and nfs. Appletalk
is depreciated, i think. It shouldn't be used for new installations
from my point of view.

-| Hi all.
-|
-| Thought you would all be interested to know that i, like
-| many others, am
-| experiencing issues with Samba and Photoshop 7.0.
-|
-| The problem is specific to Photoshop 7.0 when saving files
-| to a Samba
-|
-| Users experience a disk full error when saving from
-| Photoshop but have
-| no issues copying/moving etc files to/from the share outside of PS.
-|
-| Well, after some testing, the problem as been narrowed down
-| to a Linux
-| filesystem issue, well at lest this is my current thinking.
-|
-| To explain.
-| ---
-| We have 2 x 2TB Dell Powervault arrays, both identically
-| formatted and
-| mounted on the same Dell PowerEdge server, no issues.
-|
-| If i create a share on /dev/sdb, Photoshop will not save to
-| that share,
-| disk full error
-|
-| If i create a share on /dev/sdc, no problems.
-|
-| In both cases, the options for the shares are identical
-| (apart from the
-| share name, blah1/blah2, and pathing information)

do you think /home is right in Win Platform?
Put the \\smbnfs\MS Office in like \\smbnfs\MS Office.
I think Win98 doesn't like blanks and share names longer than eight characters

[Samba] Two Questions concerning samba - file access times - two instances on one server

2004-10-12 Thread Laurenz, Dirk
Hello everybody,

i have two questions concerning samba.

1st Topic - file times
NTFS has three file times for each file,
the create time, the change time and the
access time. The create time will never be
modified, the change time will be changed
every time you save a file, the access time
will be changed every time you access (read)
a file. If i access a file on a samba share,
the access time will be modified correctly,
but if i resave a file, the create time is
also changed although i would expect that only
the change time will be modified. I found some
parameters concerning file times, but none
of them changes the behaviour. I used the following
parameters:
dos filetimes = yes
dos filetime resolution = yes
Has anyone a suggestion, which parameters must be
set, to get the NTFS behaviour? B.t.w., the underlying
filesystem is an ext3 with acl,user_xattr mount options.

2nd Topic - two instances on one server
I have successfully running two instances on one server.
Both are members in an NT4 Domain and every thing works
right, but local username resolution and groupmappings.
Normal startup order is:
- Instance A
- Instance B
Setting some groupmappings works fine for Instance B.
if i restart Instance A but not B, the groupmappings/usermappings
from Instance A get effective. And thats very bad
If i restart afterwards Instance B, everything is fine.
I guess, this is a winbind issue. The problem is, I think,
the last started winbindd wins...

Here are my conf's (INSTANCE A and B)

RE: [Samba] nmbd logging in 3.0.6 ?

2004-09-21 Thread Laurenz, Dirk
Hello everybody,

-| -| Due to a config typo, I could not find any log.nmbd og log.smbd.
-| -| When I realized my own error, I was able to establish
-| -| the log.smbd when starting the daemon with the -l (or --logfile)
-| -| parameter. This, however, works only for smbd - nmbd seems
-| -| to ignore the mentioned parameter totally.
-| -|
-| -| Cheers, Joern.
-|
-|
-| i have the same problem. I'm running successfully two server
-| instances on one host and want to redirect the logfiles for
-| each instance.
-| This works for smbd but not for nmbd or winbindd.
-| (i assume, they ignore the command line -l switch)

I just upgraded to 3.0.7 and it seems to be fixed.

RE: [Samba] nmbd logging in 3.0.6 ?

2004-09-17 Thread Laurenz, Dirk

Hello everybody,

-| -Original Message-

rg [mailto:samba-bounces+dirk.laurenz=fujitsu--| [EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of J.
W.Andersen,
-| Falster System Teknik
-| Subject: [Samba] nmbd logging in 3.0.6 ?
-|
-| Due to a config typo, I could not find any log.nmbd og log.smbd.
-| When I realized my own error, I was able to establish
-| the log.smbd when starting the daemon with the -l (or --logfile)
-| parameter. This, however, works only for smbd - nmbd seems
-| to ignore the mentioned parameter totally.
-|
-| Cheers, Joern.

i have the same problem. I'm running successfully two server
instances on one host and want to redirect the logfiles for each instance.
This works for smbd but not for nmbd or winbindd.
(i assume, they ignore the command line -l switch)

Here's a processlist of the running processes:
root 8540 1 0 11:46 ?00:00:00 /usr/sbin/nmbd -D -s
/samba/ages001/conf/etc/smb.conf -l /samba/ages001/conf/log
root 8546 1 0 11:46 ?00:00:00 /usr/sbin/smbd -D -s
/samba/ages001/conf/etc/smb.conf -l /samba/ages001/conf/log
root 8547 8546 0 11:46 ?00:00:00 /usr/sbin/smbd -D -s
/samba/ages001/conf/etc/smb.conf -l /samba/ages001/conf/log
root 8553 1 0 11:46 ?00:00:05 /usr/sbin/winbindd -B -s
/samba/ages001/conf/etc/smb.conf -l /samba/ages001/conf/log
root 8554 8553 0 11:46 ?00:00:00 /usr/sbin/winbindd -B -s
/samba/ages001/conf/etc/smb.conf -l /samba/ages001/conf/log
root 8756 8546 0 12:26 ?00:00:00 /usr/sbin/smbd -D -s
/samba/ages001/conf/etc/smb.conf -l /samba/ages001/conf/log

and any log directive from smb.conf
[...]
log file= /samba/ages001/conf/log/%m.log
loglevel= 10
lock directory = /samba/ages001/conf/locks/
pid directory = /samba/ages001/conf/pids/
private dir = /samba/ages001/conf/private/
smb passwd file = /samba/ages001/conf/private/smbpasswd
username map= /samba/ages001/conf/private/smbusers
utmp directory = /samba/ages001/conf/utmp
wtmp directory = /samba/ages001/conf/wtmp
[...]

both winbindd and nmbd put there logfiles still into /var/log/samba.
Any help or hint would be appreciated.

AW: [Samba] Re: restarting samba daemon - when ?

2004-08-05 Thread Laurenz, Dirk
Hi,

as far as i know, samba reads it's configuration every 30 secs or so.
Just add a share to smb.conf and you will see

Or kill -1 the master smdb process. However, I don't believe this
affects any child processes already running, but any new ones will get
the configuration changes.

The daemon only reads the config file during startup. If you make a

I often do changes on params. config of Samba (smb.conf)
I was wondering , what parameters needs a restart of samba daemon ?
for example,if I change oplocks=YES to NO , do I need to restart or
 not ?

[Samba] WINS Replication

2004-06-24 Thread Laurenz, Dirk
Hello everybody,

does anyone know when WINS replication via samba deamons will be released?
Has anybody perhaps developed such a synchronisation based on scripts or something
like that.

AW: [Samba] SID History Mechanism / Trust Accounts

Hello,

so far i found out, that there's an LDAP Attribute sambaSIDList
on the subversion server http://tinyurl.com/3edtz.
Is this the attribute, which cares about the SID history?
It's important to know thanks.

The second question is still interesting
