 Hi,

as far as i can see that in your posted configuration you run to smb
 servers and
as your configuration file states: Both are configured to be local master.
 In that
case each server will regular try to become the master browser, will be
 lucky
for a moment, then the other server will become local master again. You
 should
disable the local browser = yes on the system, that should not be the local
 master.
(Would be the same in a homogene windows network: 2 servers configured as
 local
master / PDC will fight each other stetic)

Re: [Samba] Samba as a domain controller for Linux workstations?

2005-08-29 Thread Markus Markert
you dont need samba. in this case use a ldap for authentification and mount
the homes of each users per nfs. we use the smbldap tools from idealix to
manage users in ldap. i have it in our firm so and it works quit nice.

hope that helps ;-)

I'm thinking of benefits like roaming profiles, managing printers etc.

Or perhaps for Linux there are better choices than Samba, when it comes
to the office / school use (many users, many classrooms, many
 workstations etc.)?

[Samba] windows nt 4.0 workstation can not load server profile from samba

2005-08-15 Thread Markus Markert
hi list,

i have a strange problem. i use samba as pdc with ldap authentification. works
nearly perfect. one problem is, that the server profile after the login on
the nt workstation cannot load from the server, but when i logout from the
workstation, the profile is written to the server.

anyone a hint for me?

Re: [Samba] smbldap-tools unresovled problem.

2005-08-12 Thread Markus Markert
hi, have the same problem with the smbldap-tools v0.9.0 , but on suse 9.3.
if i say:

./smbldap-useradd -w -a xxx

it only adds the posix stuff, not the samba things.

i have read, that computers should not be in the computers dn in ldap. it
should be in the users dn. is that right?
http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=sambam=108439612826440w=2

can somebody send the filechanges from smb.conf, nss???...

Nope. The LDAP master account passwd has never been changed since the

Re: [Samba] smbldap-tools unresovled problem.

2005-08-12 Thread Markus Markert
i found the problem in the smbldap-tools. the problem in my case is, that if i
add a workstation with smbldap-useradd -w test, that the computer is added in
computers, but the id of this computer is not set in the group Domain
Computers in the field memberUid. hope this is the global failure of the
scripts.

can somebody confirm this?
