Re: [Samba] Quickbooks files can't be shared w/ 3.0.11
I had to add these to the share to get that working properly. I've probably added some stuff that's not needed, but it worked, so I left it. Re: [Samba] Samba/win2k ??
Usually you can just log the clients in the first time, map a network drive letter to the share's they want, and check the remember password, and reconnect at logon options. That'll do what you want. The default login name for network shares is the workstation user name. For this reason I usu try to make the smb user names the same as the workstation login usernames; keeps it simple. It is, however, easy enough in 2k and XP to logon to network shares with different user name. /r Sheakoski, Corey M (PKI) wrote: I am very new to SAMBA and new to unix as well, which makes trying to set this up very fun. My question: Is there a way to setup samba so that only users I allow can access the files? I want to do it in such a way that samba uses the win2k logon as the username it looks for and so that once the user logs onto a workstation they dont have to logon to samba everytime they need to access something. I know I can block workstations by way of the IP filter but would like to do it this other way. This may be completely impossible so please let me know. thanks alot. corey -- To unsubscribe from this list go to the following URL and read the instructions: http://lists.samba.org/mailman/listinfo/samba
Re: [Samba] Re: Huge delays on login/first access from WinXP clients on samba 3.0.4 PDC
I have a winxp slowdown problem which seems to go away when I turn iptables off. My situation is different, but it's a worth a shot just to see. I get a 20 sec directory listing delay with WinXP only, Win2k is fine, and it only happens intermittantly. /R Hans-Peter Jansen wrote: Dear Samba citizens, what kind of further information I can provide to get this tracked down? [Samba] Directory listing delay with WinXP and IPtables
Sorry if this has been covered before. I setup a new Samba server using RedHat EL 3, and samba 3.0.2-6.3E (the version that comes with Redhat). We were seeing an intermittant 20 seconcd delay when grabbing a directory listing, but only from XP, win 2k was fine. I couldn't completely nail down when the delay occured but it seemed to be when the directory or share hadn't been accessed in a while, ~15mins ??. There was never a problem or delay seeing the samba server on the browse list. I turned off iptables and the delay has been drastically reduced, now down to 2 secs, which is acceptable. Obviously I'd like to turn iptables back on. I'm wondering if there are any special port openings or other iptables settings that need adjustments with XP; or if there are adjustments I need to make to the XP clients. I've already tried the RemoteComputer\NameSpace\ regkey fix to no avail. It's a very basic iptables setup. I opened up the standard samba ports. I've listed the output of 'iptables --list' below. [Samba] Quickbooks 2000 multiuser on Samba file server access denied
Are there settings I need to add to get Quickbooks multiuser to work on a Samba fileserver? The Quickbooks data resides on a RedHat 7.2 box running Samba 2.2.1a. All users have their Quickbooks software set to multiuser. When additional people try to access the data they get an error stating that there are insufficient priveleges or permissions. [Samba] How to setup backup-admin permissions
I have a about ten Win2k machines connecting to a Linux Samba 2.2.1a file server. There are ten users each with their own home directory. Additionaly there is a 'Public' share and a 'Accounting' share. One of the Win2K machines is set to backup these mounted shares using a simple shell script and Winzip. The user that these scripts execute as is a standard samba user, he has a special share that only he can see which shows him all of the home dirs. The problem I'm having is that he can see the top level home directories fine, but can't descend into them to back them up. What is the preferred way to setup permissions for this user to be able to backup all the home dirs using his special share? Can I set a special permissions mask in the share config, or do I need to create a special samba_admin group, or ... ?? thanks in advance. /R __ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
