[Samba] Email server

2005-01-24 Thread Saad Ahmed
Hi guys,
I am a newbie so please bear with me here.

The question is not really related to Samba but to Red Hat. I want to install
some EMail Server program on my RH 9 so that I could use my Red Hat PC as email
server. Do you guys know of any program that I can use?

By the way I installed RH9 with all options, so I guess I would have something
inside my PC that would serve this prrpose that I dont know of.

Please help.

Regards,
Saad Ahmed.

[Samba] Browsing Sucks on VPN

2004-09-13 Thread Saad Ahmed
Hi,

I am using Samba on RH9 for providing namaing services. We were using WINS before for
naming.
On networking neighborhood, I can see all computers (when I am in the office), however
when I am travelling, I am not able to see the list. Not only that, I am unable to
connect to my computer using \\NameOfComputer. I can connect through \\MyIpAddress.

I could see the list of computers when I was using WINS in the past. Does anyone know
the solution to fix this on Samba.

Your help would be highly appreciated.

[Samba] Trust Relationship Prob

2004-05-13 Thread Saad Ahmed
Hi guys,
I have setup Samba as the PDC for the network. The network is Win 2000 based with the
PDC as the only Linux machine.
My machine is part of the domain. I wanted to make another user (who is also part of
the domain) as a user on my computer but I got the error:
THE USER COULD NOT BE ADDED BECAUSE THE FOLLOWING ERROR HAS OCCURRED:
THE TRUST RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THIS WORKSTATION AND THE PRIMARY DOMAIN FAILED.
What the reason?
Kindly suggest a solution before I pull my hair out.
Saad.

[Samba] BROWSING SUCKS

2004-04-15 Thread Saad Ahmed
Hi guys,
I got this wired situation. I would appreciate if someone of you could help.

NETWORK:
We have a windows based network of approx 25 computers (Win 98, Win 2000, in NT, Win
XP (both Pro and Home). We have a Samba server running on RH9 which acts as the domain
controller and master browser for the entire network (OS level = 70)

PROBLEM:
SOMETIMES, in the windows, when I open NETWORKING NEIGHBOURHOOD, I just see one or two
computers, MANTA1 (SAMBA Server) and some other computer. When I restart the Samba
Services apparently everything starts to work fine again. I tried changing OS Level
from 65 to 70 but still no success. Since a few days, the problem seems to happen
every 24 hours and I have to restart the services everyday. Previously it used to
occur every 7 days or so.

Thanks.
Saad.

[Samba] Profiles

2004-02-16 Thread Saad Ahmed
For Roaming Profiles, I could use the following in smb.conf file

logon path = \\%L\Profiles\%u

If I need the profiles to be local, what do I need to do in smb.conf?

logon path = \\(name of local computer)\%u (HOW WOULD I FILL IN name of local
computer)?

Thanks,

Saad.

[Samba] Domain Problem when connecting Win 2k with a Samba PDC on RH9

2004-02-10 Thread Saad Ahmed
I WOULD APPRECIATE ID ANYONE OF YOU COULD REPLY ME ASAP
Hi everyone,
I get this problem when I connect a computer (Win 2000) to a domain (Samba on Redhat
9). When I log on to the domain for the first time, I get 2 error messages.
First is: You don't have permission to use your local profile located at
\\manta1\pauldell. Contact your Network Administrator
Then after that I get the second message:
Windows cannot find the local profile and logging you with a temporary profile.
Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off.
1. I don't want the profile to be roaming. Why its not making the profile local even
though profile is local (as seen on the win 2000 computer)
2. Even though I don't want the profile to be roaming, I have checked the permissions
on the folder pauldell on the domain controller and has full Read/Write permissions
for user pauldell.
Please suggest a solution.
