The default setting for LDAP StartTLS changed between those versions, watch out for that. Also, if you communicate with an AD, you will need to configure your /etc/krb5.conf file with the newer one.
I've been running SerNet Samba for about a year, with excellent results. It is a Repo, so when you "yum update" it will update your samba as well. be sure to select the appropriate package level ("experimental", "recent", or "tested") for your environment.
