Hello List.

I have a problem with Samba 2.2.8a and a Win-Add that collects and calculates data
using Turbo-DB SQL.
In case two Win2K Clients are doing the same process it sometimes stopps executing
(it hangs), so that the clients just can be reseted. After turning the log-level to 4
there
ist the following piece loged:

Re: [Samba] Windows 2000 password change with smbpasswd - login problem

  Hi guys,

  How are you ?

  My setup is as follows:
  Samba-3.0.0 PDC on a Slackware-9.0 box, with mixed N.T. and Windows 2000
  clients.

Everything has been running perfectly for months however now, it seems
I've picked up a bit of a weird problem when changing a users password
via smbpasswd. This problem only appears to affect users who log onto
the Samba domain using a Windows 2000 PC.
i.e If I change a password for an N.T. 4.0 user the user merely has to
log out of N.T. and log back on with his new password, everything works
  perfectly.
If I change a password for a Windows 2000 user, the user logs off
Windows 2000, tries to login again, but receives and incorrect
  username/password error.

Ever come across this before ?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

This is a longshot, but maybe the Win2K box is caching the old password and it sees
 that
the new one doesn't match before it even tries to authenticate against the PDC. Can
 you
restart the Win2K machine and have the new password work?

Well, just usr the ctrl/atl/del dialog to change your domain password. in this way
windows notices that the password is changed. This works perfectly here!

Re: [Samba] samba-3 problem joining ws to domain

2003-12-11 Thread finjon
Did you change the ip of the server after setting up the domain? I know if you do so
you have to delete the contents of the lock-dir. BUT DO NOT DELETE secrets.tdb,
because this one includes the domain-SID. If you delete this file a new Domain-SID
will be generated and you have to put all win2k/xp Clients new into the new domain!
So, be careful!

I have the same problem with my samba as you had login in with a Win2k into

I was looking for an answer but don't find any. Did you solve the problem?
And if you did how did you do it? It would be a great help for me to set up
my samba domain. I feel i'm getting close to login with my windows 2k.

 Thanks

Re: [Samba] XP join and logon

2003-12-11 Thread finjon
Well, for joining a win2k/xp mashine to a samba domain the user MUST be root,
because just root can add the new user mashinename$ to /etc/passwd. the smb-
password for root is what ever you like!

I guess that was some problem at channging computer name at Linux DNS, or

Thats right, change the domain field to be the name of your domain/server.

the problem then is to add your machine to the samba server it needs to
use a smb account with the correct permissions to do so.

I dont know if an account can be modified to work but root is an account
that will work. The problem is root is not part or smbpasswd or rather
it doesnt have an account with samba.

to add it to samba smbpasswd -a root will do so. then change the
smbpassword for root to whatever password you want.

once you have this done you will then have an account with the correct
permissions to add your computer to the domain.

[Samba] share-name in log-files

2003-12-08 Thread finjon
Hello list.

Is there a possibility to add the share-name into the logmessages?
We have one programm two times on the server in different shares. So the accessed
filename relative to the path of the share is confusing, because you do not know which
share is used. So we need a way to add the share-names into these log-lines.

Thanks for your help,

[Samba] Initial user password

2003-12-05 Thread finjon
Hi list.

I am new to the list, but not so new to samba. Though i have a question.
I am migrating to samba 3.0 and want to setup users using pdbedit (like Volker
Lendecke showed at the Linux Kongress in Saarbrücken; very fine tutorial, thanks!).

Is there a way of setting an initial passwort like test and to force the user to
change it
after or while the first login?
Perhaps it is a stupid question, but the man-pages don't say anything about something
like this. So do not answer like rtfm ;-)

Greeting from Cologne,
