[Samba] the process when client joins and logs off....

2002-12-13 Thread kdmprasad
hello,

can any one help me with some details pls.

i was looking for the process(the internals)when a client logs in to
samba(configured as a PDC).

and the same questions what happens when a client logs off.(do the PDC
know abt this?).

iam keen in to these details, since i want to insert in to the source
code of samba,a small code by myself,to have capture the list of
clients which are joining the PDC and leaving the PDC.

first i want to have a file(say filename is logged-in)when a client
log in PDC.then when a client logs off(will samba know abt this at
all?)i want to remove the IP entry from the same file(logged-in).

so that i can have a list of IP's who r currently active in samba.

suppose at an instant if i want to find who r all the clients who
logged in to PDC,i must be able to identify from the same file.

(usually in /var/logs/ i have files named log.netbios-name)
but these r files when client logs on...and doesn't leave even though
the client switches off)

pls help me at this point

thanks in advance

[Samba] samba server+wat abt linux systems...

2002-12-02 Thread kdmprasad
 hello,

The concept of a PDC is every machine logs into the domain
controller to get access to n/w resources(file and print sharing).

and in windows if i have a NT or 2000 machine as a domain
controller, every other workstation or a client logs in to DC for
 n/w resources.

And samba is a server software on linux server, which i
assume(iam new to linux n/w'ing,so still fighting hard to
familiarize linux)is configured on linux server to
allow linux machines visible on windows n/w neighbourhood.

and windows have to be logged in samba server to get n/w resources.

But wat abt linux systems on the n/w.Is it possible that once linux
machines starts, similarly like windows clients ask to give a
username pasword pair to get into samba server for n/w access.

...if anyone is having an idea abt this, pls share it with me.and
any kind of guidance is appreciable.

 thanks in advance.

[Samba] can PDC help-implementing authorized internet access

2002-11-08 Thread kdmprasad
 Hello,
Iam just planning to go with samba as a primary domain
controller.I run a networked stations which mostly are linux and a few
on windows. And i just had an idea that the LAN users once
authenticated in PDC has an access to the file and print
services. Can i use the same PDC and untill a user is authorized
there is no internet access given.Imagine there is no DHPC server,so
the systems have ip addresses and they know the proxy address too.Do
anyone have an indea about this or worked on a concept like this
bfore.can PDC help me here implementing the same scenario. Please guide
me .

thanks in advance
