It's the Samba Team's goal to make the latest version
runnable on all Posix platforms. So you might try to compile
3.5.6. If it does not work, please report back any problems.

This should be clarified. The version of samba mentioned is a Red Hat
package. To keep things platform/packager agnostic, refer to this wiki
page to find out the latest supported versions of samba:

At least we intend to make latest Samba 3.5.6 to work on
HP/UX. Due to lack of resources we don't provide binaries.
If the compile does not work, we will fix those problems
though.

Samba uses the libraries as available at build time. Therefore
everything should fit and you don't have to fear being ahead.

I ask because the winbindd log on the 64bit machine is loaded with KDC
name resolution failures (the kdc is provided by our campus ADS).
Despite that, Samba seems to be serving files correctly with users
authenticated against ADS. This behavior on the one machine, and
little odd things on both machines, are items I'd like to at least
understand over the next few weeks.

As 3.2.6 is available please also test with this version. See
http://en.opensuse.org/Samba#openSUSE_Build_Service 3.2.6 is available
from the STABLE repositories.

The openSuSE 10.3 update repository has Kerberos 1.6x, my machines have 1.4x.

I admit I worry about the dependencies between SLES 10 and the updates
available at the openSuSE repositories. I suppose this is *our* form
of DLL Hell. ;-)

Samba updates have helped me in the past; once 3.2.6 has been in the
wild a few more days longer and the few update problems have been
better understood, I will indeed do that -- maybe 3.3, in fact.

openSUSE 10.3 is not SUSE Linux Enterprise (SLE) 10.

SLE 10 was made from the same source code as 10.1.

10.3 (and even 10.2 and 11.0) requires for example a different glibc
version. Same with Kerberos as you have seen.

I admit I worry about the dependencies between SLES 10 and the updates

Please try to use

and I expect you run into less trouble.

[Samba] Samba Versions and Latest OS X 10.4.3 Tiger Update

2005-11-02 Thread andyliebman

Hi all on list,

Just thought some of you would like to know how Samba interacts with
Apple's latest Tiger OS X 10.4.3 update. With this new OS version, the
native, built in SMB/CIFS client seems to connect perfectly to Samba
3.0.13 and 3.0.20b. It DOES NOT connect at all to Samba 3.0.14a.

If you are having this trouble with 3.0.14a, it's not your imagination.

Curiously, Thursby's AdmitMac3 and DAVE 6 connects fine to 3.0.14a, as
well as to 3.0.13, but CANNOT CONNECT to 3.0.20b.

I'm sure there's a logical explanation.

[Samba] Samba Versions

I am wondering which archive versions (or perhaps the current version also)
of Samba is appropriate for SunOS 4.1 (which is the same as Solaris 2.1 I
believe) and also which for SunOS 5.7 (Solaris 2.7)
