[Samba] test share works, but homes returns with network name cannot be found
I just encountered the same problem and solved it (with the help of Google). SELinix was preventing samba to work as I wanted. Here is a way to check if this is the problem, and to fix it: - run the program system-config-securitylevel - click on the SELinix tab - if it says enforcing - either turn off SELinix by changing enforcing to disabled - or click on modify SELinix Policy, Samba, and Allow Samba to share users home directories - kill your current smbd and nmbd processes - service smb restart With luck, samba will be running as you wanted. -- To unsubscribe from this list go to the following URL and read the instructions: https://lists.samba.org/mailman/listinfo/samba

[Samba] test share works, but homes returns with network name cannot be found
Just built a new server based on CentOS 5.0 which included Samba 3.0232. I also added Webmin as the server is in the closet without a monitor currently. When I went thorugh the generla tutorial with Webmin Samba worked, but showed all root directories, except for /home. That was not as expected and certainly not very helpful. So, I went back and tried again baseed on what I had used in the past on the old server. I have set up the test share directory and can connect to it without problem from either my desktop Win2000 system or my MacBook Pro. I don't have a printer on this server, having switched over to a jetdirect card, but I do see the Printers icon in the list at least on the Windows. My home directory is another matter - I can see it and it has the proper comment attached, but any attempt to connect from Win2000 results in a popup window. I get rejected from the Mac too, but of course don't get the Windows popup window. As the Windows popup window actually says something, here it is - top line is the banner -- \\Trailrunner \\Trailrunner\dan is not accessable. The network name cannot be found. --- Googeling on this has lead me to various old postings but nothing directly on point, and the bid difference I seem to have is that I can indeed get to the test share, copy in files etc... without problem. What follows are the core entries of my smb.conf file, the notations from the log file and the results of what seem to be key tests. [Samba] test page failed to print - How to I resolve this?
This is a new one to me... Drivers install fine, but on some of the printers I get the test page failed to print message. I'm getting nothing in the samba logs from the workstation, smbd, nor from the cups logs. I've googled myself silly, but can only find other people asking the same or similar question. [Samba] test platform - samba + ldap issue smbldap-useradd hangs
Hello Guys, About a week ago I wrote in with a issue with smbldap-populate; it wouldn't populate because it was missing some packages. This has since been resolved. I am running redhat 9 on a test server, just for more experience really; I am using redhat 9 because of a scsi raid driver needed, please do not ask about this. Ok so here is where I am at I have been using Samba 3 by example as it is a fantastic reference; ./smbldap-populate has populated the database perfectly. When i try to add a user smbldap-useradd -m -a username it just sits there; hanging. I press cntrl + c and repeat the process - it says username exists. I can id username and it shows the user in the correct groups; however pdbedit -Lv username reports username cannot be found. smbldap-userdel username also hangs. smbpasswd username also reports username not to be found. getent passwd getent group shows that ldap is working. ldapsearch -x -h 127.0.0.1 -b dc=tinistuff,dc=com -D cn=Manager,dc=tinistuff,dc=com -W - this returns the ldap database as expected. I am having a few issues with debugging so at this stage I cannot provide a log file for ldap. Any ideas or suggestions is more then welcome and very much appreciated. I really appologise in advanced for the lack of the log file; I will try and get this sorted out. Could you also CC your reply to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cheers, Adrian Sender. -- To unsubscribe from this list go to the following URL and read the instructions: https://lists.samba.org/mailman/listinfo/samba

Re: [Samba] test [Solved]
Mystery solved, though not very satisfactorily: From the Gmail website: Mail you send or forward to a mailing list you subscribe to, or to an account that forwards messages to your Gmail account, will only appear in 'Sent Mail.' This is intended to help prevent clutter in your inbox. If a message isn't successfully delivered, you'll receive an error message in your inbox In other words, send a message to a list via gmail, and it's 'smart' enough to not route your own post back to your inbox when it's returned by the list server - the ony record you have of your post is in your 'sent' folder - uh - so much for archiving threads! Gmane's search compounded my problem because my searches for posts in the list archives on my name, yielded no hits, hence I believed my posts weren't getting through. Again, sorry about the noise. Hello all, I've gotten the printing subsytem almost working - I think. I am able to install my print drivers to the server IAW the instructions found here: http://us4.samba.org/samba/docs/man/printing.html The drivers are being installed to /etc/samba/drivers/W32X86 IAW /etc/samba/smb.conf by following the instructions above This line specifically seems to do it: [print$] path = /etc/samba/drivers This shows up in my windows client as \\server\print$\W32X86\3 The printers show up in \\server\Printers. source location for samba test harnesses
After talking to Tim, I wanted to start committing to HEAD some test harnesses that will exercise internal bits of Samba, such as StrCaseCmp to start with. These will be small C files that link to -lbigballofmud and allow particular functions to be exercised from the command line, with a view to eventually calling them from a Python testing framework. They compile to relatively small executables, and they won't be built by default. What is a good location for the source? torture/ seems to be the closest existing directory. -- Martin

[Samba] test
Hello all, From a Windows NT, 2000, or XP command prompt (cmd.exe, NOT command.com) you can see all of the system level environment variables available when processing login scripts (and other programs) by issuing the set command. Unfortunately, there is nothing there that specifically identifies the version of Windows, although the variable %OS% shows up as Windows_NT. The command ver returns the version, but that's not really helpful, because in a batch file script, you can't use the output to control the direction of the script. Here's a workaround, but it's going to take some running around on your part. On each workstation, you can define your own environment variable, say WINVER=9x for Windows 98 workstations, WINVER=NT for Windows NT 4.0, WINVER=2K and so on. Then you can call %WINVER% from your login script. These environment variables are defined in the (rt. click) My Computer - Properties... look thru here for environment variables. There are user-level and system-level variables, you want to place WINVER in the System variables. This setting will take effect the next time cmd.exe is called, so you don't need to reboot. Alternatively, the variables can be defined in the registry, in the HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment key. --Jon [EMAIL PROTECTED] The above is in reply to the below: Date: Tue, 28 Jan 2003 08:17:36 -0800 From: Kaleb Pederson [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [Samba] %windows_version?
