[Samba] migration to new server

2007-02-16 Thread Mark Rutherford

I need to migrate some 40 workstations over to a new server...
I have googled this for the best part of an hour, and others have had
this issue and nobody seemed to have an answer.

The old server uses smbpasswd, the new server uses LDAP.
I am trying to write a script that reads the file and sets up these
accounts on the LDAP server, but

I cannot seem to get the machine accounts to work.

I cannot rejoin 40 workstations, this would be a nightmare.
The only way I can get a workstation to like the new server is to rejoin
it, despite the fact that

the new server has the same name, SID, etc.
Specifically, I get errors like:

_net_auth2: creds_server_check failed. Rejecting auth request from
client HENRY2006 machine account HENRY2006$

What so I need to enter into LDAP to get it to like the workstations?

I have entries such as:
test$:1043::D461D2204D7CECDED9847D069C1E822D:[W
]:LCT-45B7DA08:

I am using the 4th field here as the sambaNTPassword in LDAP.

Is this correct?
What do I need to do to migrate these machine accounts?

Re: [Samba] migration to new server

Hi all,

I did not get a response to this posting so I just went for it.

FYI: it worked fine. Copied the files I mentioned in the original post to
the new server and brought the original server down. The brought the new
server up and all worked great. Also I migrated to Centos 4.1 instead of
FC3.

All is working good.

Thanks!

I have a need to migrate our current Fedora Core 1 / samba 3.0.7 server
to Fedora Core 3 / Samba server 3.0.10. we currently have the FC1 system
acting as a PDC for 20 windows XP clients. I figured that I might be able
to copy the /etc/samba Dir /etc/passwd /etc/groups files and the
/var/cache/samba Dir , location of the tdb files, to the new server. Is
this correct? If not please let me know what I need to do or if this is
 even possible.

Basically I want to replace the FC1 samba server with the FC3 samba
server with as little as possible work on the client side.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 Best regards,

 Rich Houston
