Re: [Samba] network neighborhood
Hai, Since im using debian 6 also, and i do see all my windows pC/servers and linux server (samba) Here is what im having, and most important make sure your using the same "workgroup = DOMAINNAM" for all servers. This isa part of my PDC config. ( based on debian sarge setup, upgraded to lenny, using samba 3.5.6 from backports-lenny ) interfaces = lo eth0 bind interfaces only = yes netbios name = PDC server string = THEREALHOSTNAME-PDC( but you can use something else ) workgroup = DOMAINNAME domain logons = Yes preferred master = Yes domain master = Yes os level = 65 min protocol = NT1 lm announce = no lanman auth = no disable netbios = no On my New PDC ( new setup , debian squeeze, used backports samba packages version 3.6.6 ) interfaces = lo eth0 bind interfaces only = yes smb ports = 139 445 dns proxy = yes name resolve order = wins host lmhosts bcast netbios name = PDC2 server string = THEREALHOSTNAME-PDC2 workgroup = DOMAINNAME domain logons = Yes domain master = Yes preferred master = No On my BDC ( base on debian etch, upgraded to lenny sing samba 3.5.6 from backports-lenny ) netbios name = BDC server string = THEREALHOSTNAME-BDC workgroup = DOMAINNAME domain logons = Yes preferred master = No domain master = No os level = 60 min protocol = NT1 lm announce = no lanman auth = no disable netbios = no encrypt passwords = true name resolve order = lmhosts host wins bcast dns proxy = yes and the member server are having. like BDC but domain logons = NO preferred master = No domain master = No hope this helps for you. Also, all my pcnames are in BIND, resolvable and having reverse records. and.. if you dont see your server, wait at least 15-30 min. somethings it just takes some time before you see the name of the server. Why, i dont know.. Good luck. [Samba] Network Neighborhood problems with samba 3.0.4
I have samba 3.0.4 installed as a pdc for a small network of windows xp machines with roaming profiles. Whenever I add a network place to my network places it does it was a network folder. If i then logout and log back into the domain and go nack to my network places the shared network folder is then an "ordinary" folder with a shortcut (symlink folder) pointing to the share. [Samba] SAMBA/Network Neighborhood problem
Hello SAMBA gurus, I have SAMBA installed on a Linux box behind a Linux firewall. Also running behind the same firewall on the same class C sub-net is a NT 4.0 box. After starting up SMBD/NMBD I could see the remote SAMBA system and the file and printer shares displayed as icons in the NT 4.0 Network Neighborhood Explorer file system. Right clicking and displaying the menu over the highlighted printer share icon I selected the: printer test for the shared printer in question. The NT 4.0 system requested that I install the printer driver for the shared printer. The printer driver install was successful but afterwards the Workgroup under the Network Neighborhood would no longer allow access which previously would display the icon for the remote system hosting the SAMBA server: SMBD/NMBD. The following error condition was displayed as a NT 4.0 pop-up dialogue: Workgroup not accessible The network name cannot be found The system particulars follow. Please advise, David OS: rh 7.2, NT 4.0 service pack 6a SAMBA: version 3.02 -- To unsubscribe from this list go to the following URL and read the instructions: http://lists.samba.org/mailman/listinfo/samba
Re: [Samba] Network Neighborhood
we have Samba running months on end...the only issue I have is samba restart/stop scripts don't kill nmbd (on redhat based linux anyway). have you tried...smbclient -L sambabox ? it should show..looking up name on itself..(wins lookup) output should show browse list...workgroup name ..and current Browse Master. You could try this when things are working...and later when they fail. Your log below says W98 box is becomming Browse Master ? you don't have NETBEUI configured on w98 boxes do you ??!! regards, Richard Coates. ps: have you gone through "diagnosis.txt" ? Re: [Samba] Network Neighborhood
Hi Richard, No, workgroup name is actually something else. > is this really your workgroupname ? > workgroup = workgroupname > are your w98 clients configured to use your wins server ? > re check your config in smb.conf AND client settings > Richard Coates. Win98 clients are configured to use my Samba server for wins. I'm not getting a lot in the way of log output, but it seems that the problem crops up after Samba has been running for a bit. For example, I boot the Samba server and within not too long all clients show up in NN on the Win98 systems. After a while, all systems will disappear from NN. When that happens, I am able to use the "Find>Computer" feature to find all systems *except* the Samba server. I presume this is because of the nature of things and that if the Samba server were also running Samba client, then it would also show up. As it is now, I can go into the Samba server and issue a service smb restart and usually within not too long a time all the systems show up in NN again. Then some time later they just disappear...again, etc. As I mentioned, I'm not getting much in the way of log output, but here is one entry that might be interesting: [EMAIL PROTECTED] samba] cat log.thinkpad570 [2003/03/24 10:46:25, 0] lib/util_sock.c:read_data(436) read_data: read failure for 2426. Error = Connection reset by peer That was about 8 hours ago and since then Samba has been restarted a couple of times at least. I also made a change to the /etc/samba/smb.conf file in that I commented out the remote announce line. Thinkpad570 is the laptop on the wireless connection that's having problems. Since this is a wireless LAN, it is possible the problem is elsewhere. However, my old system which ran Mandrake 7.2 and an older wireless LAN did not have this apparent problem. Re: [Samba] Network Neighborhood
is this really your workgroupname ? workgroup = workgroupname are your w98 clients configured to use your wins server ? re check your config in smb.conf AND client settings Richard Coates. Re: [Samba] Network Neighborhood
I commented out the "remote announce" line. While it does appear to have helped, it has not solved the problem. What else should I be looking at? Thanks, Paul Nixon -- To unsubscribe from this list go to the following URL and read the instructions: http://lists.samba.org/mailman/listinfo/samba
[Samba] Network Neighborhood
I've probably posted this before and don't recall getting a response. Anyway, I am running Mandrake 9.0 and Samba 2.2.6 on my "server". The server has 3 NICs for internet, wired internal net, and wireless internal net. The problem: my Win98SE laptop cannot always see the server and thus does not always have access to the printers attached to the server. Network Neighborhood also seems to not function correctly as sometimes I see some systems there and sometimes not and it seems to go up and down at random. However, I don't seem to have any trouble using "Find>Computer" function (other than with the server). I also see this in my logs: Mar 20 11:06:47 Server nmbd[1792]: Doing a node status request to the domain master browser at IP 192.168.240.8 failed. Mar 20 11:21:52 Server nmbd[1792]: Doing a node status request to the domain master browser at IP 192.168.240.8 failed. Mar 20 11:36:54 Server nmbd[1792]: Doing a node status request to the domain master browser at IP 192.168.240.8 failed. And received no response from the list. 240.8 is the ip of my Win98SE laptop. How it's being identified as a master browser is anyone's guess as it most certainly is NOT a MB. I also see this which is similar to the above: Mar 20 11:21:52 Server nmbd[1792]: [2003/03/20 11:21:52, 0] nmbd/nmbd_browsesyn c.c:get_domain_master_name_node_status_fail(509) Mar 20 11:21:52 Server nmbd[1792]: get_domain_master_name_node_status_fail: Mar 20 11:21:52 Server nmbd[1792]: Doing a node status request to the domain master browser at IP 192.168.240.8 failed. Mar 20 11:21:52 Server nmbd[1792]: Cannot get workgroup name. [Samba] "Network Neighborhood" across subnets
I've got a group of webdesigners that use Windows 2000 with public IPs. The webserver (also runs samba) has been moved to a colo facility. How can I setup samba so that it is accessible over the internet? Is there a secure (ssh?) way to do it? Thanks in advance. This sounds like you have to walk thru DIAGNOSIS.txt. [Samba] Network Neighborhood can see Samba server, but cannot access!
I got an error by clicking on the Samba server in the Network Neighborhood: ERROR: \\SMBSERVER is not accessible, the computer or sharename could not be found, make sure you typed it correctly, and try again. This is my smb.conf: [global] workgroup = WORKGROUPNAME security = share [tmp] path = /tmp -I can access other servers within WORKGROUPNAME, but they can only see me, can't gain access to my resource. -When I issue this sommand: smbclient -L //SMBSERVER, in the server column, only SMBSERVER is shown, all other computers within the workgroup r missing, but I can access them by smbclient -L //ANYSERVER -I'm using Samba 2.2.3a + Debian GNU/Linux 2.2r5. Please help, thanks a lot. ¢éì¹»®&Þ~º&¶¬+-h¶¢YhÂ)àQÚÚÞiÛaz)춻¶*'²m§ÿåËl±©jàþf¢f§þX¬¶)ߣû¶
