Location : Fort Worth,TX*(Need Locals for inperson)*
Duration : 6 Months

Description:
Database Administrator (DBA) contractor for staff augmentation purposes to
help manage its SQL Server database environment. The position will be
responsible for on-going administration of existing environments including
defining, planning, implementing and supporting BNSF’s physical SQL Server
databases for the enterprise. Candidate should possess extensive knowledge
of all aspects of SQL Server including monitoring and performance tuning.
Knowledge & experience with HANA, DB2 and Oracle database technologies is a
plus.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Performs physical database administration (dba) tasks in SQL Server. Also
performs dba tasks in SAP HANA environments as necessary.
• Designs and builds simple to complex database structures from data
models.
• Provide rotating 24x7 on-call support for BNSF’s SQL Server, HANA, DB2,
and Oracle environments as necessary.
• Participates in design reviews as required to ensure database design
meets application requirements.
• Designs, maintains, documents and executes database utilities to provide
information regarding database activity.
• Proactively performs database monitoring and performance tuning tasks.
• Identify and provide solutions to performance issues in multiple database
environments.
• Provides automation to standard dba tasks. Able to develop scripts on
UNIX and Windows platforms as necessary.
• Reviews and enforces adherence to the BNSF Architecture, as well as
database design and usage standards.
• Understands database high availability technologies and guides BNSF in
implementing appropriate solutions.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Required
B.S. degree from an accredited university.
Five or more year’s total experience as physical DBA in SQL Server
including two years with version 2012/2014.
Three or more years of experience in database/application performance
tuning and monitoring tools.
Experience in database problem identification, problem diagnosis and
resolution.
Experience in building data architecture models and enforcing enterprise
architecture standards and guidelines.
Two or more years’ experience in implementing database high availability
solutions especially in the AlwaysOn and WSFC (Windows Server Failover
Clustering) area.
Experience in data encryption (e.g. TDE).
Candidate has excellent communication – ability to explain a technical
problem to management.
Experience in SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
Experience in PowerShell.
Candidate is a team player. Shares knowledge. Coaches team members.
Ability to work on high performing teams and deliver under pressure
situations.

Opportunity for the Database Administrator is responsible for ensuring that
the SQL Server databases meet performance expectations with respect to
response time, availability, scalability, and restorability and that the
databases support our systems meeting business requirements for
functionality. The databases include those associated with transactional
systems and data warehouses.


*Required Sr. SQL Database Admin skills:*
Minimum (5) five years of DBA experience with MS SQL Server versions 2005,
2008 including SQL coding and database performance tuning
Four-year college degree, preferably in CS, MIS or another technical field
Experience with database design and implementation
Experience with developing data standards and change control processes
Familiarity with formal software development processes and best practices
Familiarity with client/server and n-tier systems architectures, and object
oriented development

Job Summary:

Sr. SQL Database Admin Primary Responsibilities:
Monitors and analyzes current databases and their performance; makes
recommendations to improve performance, and implements recommendations.
Reviews database changes recommended by development and network
administrators while providing feedback.
Assists developers and network/system administrators in problem analysis
and resolution; makes recommendations, accordingly.
Coordinates changes to databases to ensure implementation goes smoothly and
without incident.
Designs new databases and changes to current databases in concert with the
system development team.
Maintains a data dictionary of custom-developed databases.
Assists in installing new software with respect to databases.
Assists Quality Assurance in setting up test environments, as required.
Reviews upgrades to current versions of SQL Server and makes
recommendations for implementation of those upgrades considering input from
System Development.
Reviews database maintenance plans and results; recommends improvements and
implements improvements, as appropriate.
Recovers databases from backups, as required after database corruption or
destruction.
Analyzes growth patterns in database size and recommend increases in disk
space requirements.
Assists in designing, coding, unit testing, and installing stored
procedures.
