*Role: Technical Writer*
*Location: Columbus, OH*
*Duration: 3+ Months (will extend)*
*Rate: $40/hr C2C*
*Interview: Skype if not local – if local – F2F*
*Position Description:*
Technical writer is responsible for creating and writing various types of
documents including conceptual logical architecture diagrams, physical
architecture documents, job aids, cheat sheets or instructions, persona
development and storyboards.
*This position works with technologists, consultants, other stakeholders,
and/or subject matter experts to develop documentation in the following
areas:*
•Create detailed business and systems architecture illustrations to
be utilized by system design engineers, solution architects, and project
and program managers.
•Conduct one-on-one and group meetings to procure resources to
support the development of architecture artifacts.
*Responsibilities:*
•Work with architects and other technical leaders to build the
documents for the EA community
•Work with Architects and Technical Leads to document their
conceptual, logical, and physical architectures
•Use photographs, drawings, diagrams, animation, and charts that
increase users’ understanding
•Select appropriate medium for message or audience, such as
manuals, Visio, Powerpoint, online videos, or other multi –media formats
•Standardize content and structure across various functional areas
and brands
•Make content easy to search for and consume
•Gather usability feedback from partners, designers, and engineers
•Revise documents as new issues arise
•Will also construct training manuals and appropriate documentation
related to EA
•Author artifacts to communicate effectively utilizing written and
visual media
*Skill Level:*
•The Technical Writer position requires a minimum of 5 years of
experience in technical writing
•Prior experience writing technical manuals/user guides for
technology
•Good organization and follow-up skills are required
•Excellent written communication and visual design skills are
required
•Ability to develop consistent formats for technical manuals and
documents
•Extensive experience using industry standard technical writing and
graphic design tools such as those available from Microsoft and the Adobe
Creative Suite
•Experience in creating PowerPoint and Visio diagrams of
architect’s vision
•Experience in creating documents of application and infrastructure
designs
•Experience with agile and/or iterative project methodology
processes
•Highly organized, deadline oriented, quality focused
•Understanding of technical and technology terms and processes
•Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Computer Science,
Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
*Additional Job Details:*
In the current role we really need a resource that is strong in the entire
office suite, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, etc. The candidate would also have
to be very strong with minimal direction. Someone that can sit in potential
architecture design sessions, follow the discussion, possibly documenting
as we go on the Whiteboard, and giving recommendations on how we should be
showing the output documentation. They don’t have to necessarily understand
all the technical details that we are discussing, but they have to be
creative with their output, and not require constant direction. I think the
title that we are using, “Technical Writer,” may be stereotyping the
candidates all into the same basic category. The previously interviewed, as
well as Andy, are all very capable of editing or writing documentation in
Word. Perfect for training materials, for example, but not what our primary
focus will be. We will start with another three month engagement. But there
may be an opportunity to hire the position on full time after the first of
the year. That is why we are interested in other possible candidates at
this time.
