*JOB DESCRIPTION: *



Reporting to the Web Portal Technical Lead, the Web Portal Senior Software
Engineer (SWE) will be responsible for developing innovative software
applications and systems that are mission critical to the success.
Projects include both new application development for the portal and
improvements to the underlying portal platform in order to streamline
future development, support integration of third party components, and to
share our work as publicly available open-source projects.



The Senior SWE will work collaboratively with team members, technical
leadership and users in order to design, code, and deploy tools and
platforms that will be used across the research community and shared
nationally. The Senior SWE will be responsible for web application, portal
platform, and user interface development, deployment, maintenance, and
improvements.  Primary responsibilities include both server and client side
development to create interfaces for use by researchers, policy makers, and
members of the public using Ruby on Rails, HTML, CSS, JavaScript/JQuery,
and PHP.  Additional responsibilities may include both server and client
side development using Java and other MVC frameworks.  This person will
work with a variety of teams on a number of projects and will be expected
to take a leadership role in analyzing requirements, developing designs,
performing unit testing, and supporting ongoing QA efforts.



Basic Qualifications:



·       BA/BS, preferably in computer science

·       At least seven years of experience in web application and portal
development

·       At least five years of professional experience with MVC frameworks
(e.g. Ruby on Rails, JSF, Spring MVC, Grails, etc.), Ruby or Java, HTML,
CSS, and JavaScript.



Additional Qualifications:



·       MS in computer science or related field is preferred.

·       Experience working with Agile methodologies (continuous
integration, test-driven development, SCRUM), ORM, Content Management
Systems (e.g. Drupal, Wordpress, and/or Joomla), and semantic technologies
is highly desirable.

·       Candidates should be comfortable collaborating with technical
leadership, sponsors and end users.

·       Prior experience in the development of biomedical informatics
applications and scientific software are highly desirable
