Project Summary:
·Client did a proof of concept last year to build a new platform to create
a capability that did not exist for their branded credit cards (i.e. Saks
MasterCard which can be used anywhere but provides special privileges and
rewards if used at Saks)
.The current system is mainframe based and if the system went down VISA/MC
could provide a back-up.  However, if it was a non Visa/MC system (Private
Label, i.e. Costco Canada Card only available to use at Costco and
underwritten by Capital One) no back up exists and this can create very big
issues while system is down.  System down means no sales, loss or revenue,
unhappy customers, etc.
·The new system is/will be Java/Cloud based and allows for zero downtime =
Happy customers
·If they can get this up and running quickly, it could open up significant
opportunity for Capital One
·Capital One is looking to stand up a “team in a box” to supplement two
existing teams and get this POC up and running in time for the Holiday
Season.

TimeLine
·ASAP, but realistically, early August.  Need to navigate the procurement
process and see if this has to go out to bid or not (probably does)

Tech Stack/Team make-up
·Java/Spring/Spring Cloud/Rabbit MQ
.Eventually there may be some internal facing UI, but UI skills aren’t
critical
.They want some experience in AWS, Docker is nice to have and jPOS would be
very nice to have (jPOS is a free and open source library/framework that
provides a high-performance bridge between card messages generated at the
point of sale or ATM terminals and internal systems along the entire
financial messaging network. jPOS is an enabling technology that can be
used to handle all card processing from messaging, to processing, through
reporting)
.Cloud/AWS is not critical for everyone, but we will need some expertise in
AWS
.All Java engineers will be expected to test and understand test automation
.PERSONALITY/SOFT SKILLS are very important.
.Need people who understand agile work environment, know how to estimate in
an agile environment and who will speak up in stand-ups, planning/grooming
sessions, etc.  They do NOT want devs who are just looking for work to be
assigned to them so make sure we are asking that question when screening
people (How does work in your Sprint get completed? Correct Answer:  The
team self-assigns tasks and/or volunteers to complete tasks.  Wrong Answer:
 the lead assigns tasks/work)
