RF communications Engineer Education required: Required: BS in IS/CS/CE/EE, preferred MS in IS/CS/CE Technical skills/knowledge (if required): • 3+ years experience required with o Design, test and commissioning of radio frequency communication systems o Compliance to emissions regulations and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standards • Good working knowledge of RF design concepts such as RF link budgets, free-space propagation relevant to mobile applications, and RF component selection (cables, connectors, directional couplers, circulators, filters, etc). • Knowledge of general communications theory concepts such as modulation, noise, delay spread, latency, processing gain, divisional multiple access methods, and bit error rates. • Demonstrated experience with test tools such as spectrum analyzers, cable analyzers and distance-to-fault/return loss measurements. • Experience in general electrical hardware design, such as creating assembly drawings and bill-of-materials (BOMs). • Working knowledge of design practices for EMC, and familiarity with EMC standards. Experience with European standards for CE-marking of communications equipment a plus. • Knowledge of regulations relevant to type acceptance of RF transmitters and licensing/certification processes. • Knowledge of electrical installation practices a plus with a focus on grounding principles and lightning/surge protection. • Demonstrated experience with fiber optic layout/design including troubleshooting knowledge, OTDR, OTLS, testing, physical cable knowledge including concepts of splicing, physics of light transmissions. • Knowledge of digital network (Ethernet-based) system concepts a plus. • Superior verbal/written communications skills for effective interfacing with non-specialist technical team members. Occasional opportunities to act as a trainer to technical field site personnel. Language ability : · English, Foreign Languages would be of benefit, but not required. Traveling: · Requires international travel to field locations, including Canada, China, Taiwan, India, Western Europe, Brazil. Additional countries as new contracts require. Domestic travel is also necessary.
