*JOB DESCRIPTION:*
Reporting to the Technical Lead, the Lead Software Engineer works within a
team-based agile development environment to ensure a well-architected and
effective user experience in the finished product. This position’s primary
responsibility is our Review Request System, which is being currently
rewritten as an open-source Ruby-on-Rails implementation; it is being
enhanced and extended to support regional and potentially national networks.

We are looking for a lead software engineer who is familiar with Agile
software engineering practices and tools, is passionate for development and
delivery of quality software, and is capable and enthusiastic about working
with product owners, designers, engineers, and testers to collaboratively
build outstanding software that is built open-source.

*The Lead Software Engineer has the following responsibilities for
end-to-end development:*
* Conceive the technical requirements for web applications in collaboration
with the Technical Lead and development team, based on the functional needs
defined by the designers and stakeholders.
* Lead the developers in the tool build by ensuring senior and junior
developers understand the strategy and vision, develop appropriate unit
tests, and implement a cohesive end product
* Design, code, deploy, maintain, and improve end-to-end web applications
using Ruby-on-Rails, javascript, HTML, CSS, MySQL, Postgres, and related
frameworks and tools
* Assist the Technical Lead as needed, in generally overseeing team
operations, assigning tasks, triaging issues, troubleshooting, performing
impact and risk assessments, and providing input on short and long term
planning.


*Basic Qualifications: *Bachelors in computer science or related training
and experience. At least 8 years of experience in software application
development or a related field.

*Additional Qualifications:*
The incumbent will have at least eight years of experience in web
application and portal development and at least five years of professional
experience in Ruby, Java, HTML, CSS, Javascript/JQuery, MVC frameworks
(e.g. Ruby on Rails, JSF, Spring MVC, Grails), database design, and
web¬services. The candidate will have at least three years in Ruby on Rails.
Experience working with Agile methodologies (continuous integration,
test-driven development, Scrum) is essential. Candidates should be
comfortable collaborating with technical leadership, sponsors and end
users. Prior experience in the development of health-related applications
is highly desirable. M.S. in computer science or related field is preferred.
