efblib wants to be a small and simple C++ library for writing on the framebuffer.
Currently it's composed by two classes, one to describe the framebuffer, the other
to describe the single pixel. Right now there's the implementation for RGB16 and
RGB32. The library will allow the programmer to consider the framebuffer like a
canvas, where he could write text, change pixels' colour, show images.

I found only two files in the tarball. Is that all?

In order to release your project properly and unambiguously
under the GPL, please place copyright notices and permission-to-copy
statements at the beginning of every file of source code.

In addition, if you haven't already, please copy a copy of the plain
text version of the GPL, available from
(http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.txt), into a file named COPYING.

Additional instructions are available from
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html.

The GPL FAQ explains why these procedures must be followed. To learn
why a copy of the GPL must be included with every copy of the code,
for example, go to

Your project is not yet part of the GNU project, so we cannot

While there are non-GNU programs with names that include 'gnu', such
as gnuplot and gnuboy, they are not hosted on Savannah. We want to

 Type: GNU

 Description:
GNU School is a project to create a complete computer administration system for a
high school (although other schools will be supported in the end, my testbed is a
private US high school). It should have the following components:

   1) Web-based interface

   2) Class and pupil grade book

   3) Mailing lists by pupil and groups (e.g. classes)

   4) Class pages

   5) Calendar for staff and students

   6) Assignment lists and class resources

This is for starters; it will eventually evolve to have webmail and non-web
interfaces. The point is that it's a componentized, one-stop school system based
upon Free standards and software. The web stuff will be based on a standard LAMP
(GNU/Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP), and will likely have an LDAP backend for account
 information.

 Other Software Required:
 At the moment:

   1) Apache

   2) GNU/Linux

   3) PHP

   4) MySQL, if appropriate

   5) OpenLDAP

   6) Some MTA (e.g. exim)

   7) Mozilla will be recommended, although all web pages will be written to the W3C
standards (XHTML and CSS, with as little JavaScript as possible, which is very
 doable for me. :)

More will likely follow, e.g. Ogg, Gnumeric, etc. formats for resource files.

 Other Comments:
I'm currently a part-time web developer at a private US high school, and they're
looking to eventually transition to GNU/Linux. A lot of what they're looking to do
could be rolled into this project, if they're amenable to it. If not, I can use it
as a learning experience so that I can know the target audience better.

Hi,

[Savannah-hackers] [Savannah] pam-mount want to be a GNU package

2003-10-10 Thread savannah-hackers
Hi,

The following project was submitted to Savannah. It needs evaluation to
become a GNU package, can you give it a look, please ?

Submitter: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Project Full Name: pam_mount
Project System Name: pam-mount
License: lgpl
Approval URL: https://savannah.gnu.org/admin/groupedit.php?group_id=5409
Description: Pam_mount, LGPLed and available for download at

http://www.flyn.org/projects/pam_mount/pam_mount-0.9.6.tar.gz, is a PAM module that

can mount volumes for a user session. The module is aimed at environments

with SMB (Samba or Windows NT) or NCP (Netware or Mars-NWE) servers that Unix

users wish to access transparently. It facilitates access to private volumes

of these types well. The module also supports mounting home directories using

loopback encrypted filesystems. The module was originally written for use on

the GNU/Linux operating system but has since been modified to work on several

flavors of BSD.

o Every user can access his own volumes

o The user needs to type the password just once (at login)

o The mounting process is transparent to the users

o There is no need to keep the login passwords in any additional file

o The volumes are unmounted upon logout, so it saves system resources,

avoiding the need of listing every every possibly useful

remote volume in /etc/fstab or in an automount/supermount config file.

This is also necessary for securing encrypted

   filesystems.

Pam_mount quot;understandsquot; SMB, NCP, and any type of filesystem that can be

mounted using the standard mount command. If someone

has a particular need for a different filesystem, feel free to ask me to

include it and send me patches.

[Savannah-hackers] submission of Haver Ain't Very Exciting, Really - savannah.nongnu.org

2003-10-10 Thread dylanwh

A package was submitted to savannah.nongnu.org
This mail was sent to [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Dylan William Hardison [EMAIL PROTECTED] described the package as follows:
License: gpl
Other License:
Package: Haver Ain't Very Exciting, Really
System name: haver
Type: non-GNU

Description:
I have been writing a simple real(ish) time chat server,

written in Perl using POE (really nice set of perl modules).

I have a few reasons for doing this. Mainly I want a simple

server to talk to friends with. Emphasis on simple.

The protocol is just lines (CR-LF) with words seperated by tabs,

and should be easy to parse in any language.

A friend of mine is writing a different chat server, in perl,

but it is becoming more complicated all the time... He's using XML

for the protocol, and it has a plugin system that uses Inter-process

communication... It's like a microkernel chat system.

My system *was* working, until I ripped out the guts...

I was tracking nicknames with a simple hash, and it was turning

into really ugly code.

Let's see... I'm calling it Haver

(Hay-ver, to talk foolishly), and the server is called

haver(e?)d. I started writing it several weeks ago, and it was in a

workable state that same day... I know some other people that want to

wrok on it, hence my want for a savannah project.

http://dylan.hardison.net/haver.tar.gz is the source, such as it is.

There is a Perl/Tk client that works, but the server doesn't.

the perl/tk client was written by a friend of mine (in like, an hour ;)

So, the goal is to have a very simple chat server, similar to IRC

but with some extra admin features, with a simple protocol that

so that clients can be easily written for it.

Oh, and I decided to use savannah because I'm a bit paranoid about

sourceforge...

(This is the re-submittion; I had to add copyright notices and a copy of the GPL. I
believe everything is okay in that respect now.)

Other Software Required:
POE

perl 5.6

Re: [Savannah-hackers] submission of PythonLive: Educators Edition - savannah.nongnu.org

2003-10-10 Thread Arthur

 Hi,

I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in Savannah.

Thanks for taking the time.

Linux is just a kernel of a more complex system
that we like to refer to as GNU/Linux, to emphasize
the ideals of the Free Software movement.

Would you mind changing references to Linux as an OS
 to GNU/Linux?

 For more information, see
 http://www.gnu.org/gnu/linux-and-gnu.html

Not at all. I believe Knoppix refers to itself as a GNU/Linux system. It
*is* Debian at its core. I am not a student of these matters - but
associate Debian as *the* GNU/Linux distribution, i.e. the distribution most
closely associated with the Free Software movement. Is there substance to
that understanding?

Note that Savannah supports projects of the Free Software
movement, not projects of the Open Source movement.

We are careful about ethical issues and insist on producing software
that is not dependent on proprietary software.

I am supportive of being careful about these ethical issues. I find it
particularly, most clearly, unethical to contemplate public education funds
used to teach people how to use proprietary, fee-based software. Which is
exactly what will happen more and more if the Free Software movement is not
insistent on the matter.

I happen to be quite conventional and mainstream in lifestyle, general
political stances, etc. and etc. And I think it entirely mainstream to
object to students being taught on - say - the Windows operating system. The
idea that it might be acceptable is - to me - radical. But stranger things
have happened.

I won't preach to the converted - I'm sure - other than to say that the
project I have in mind is my own effort to influence this situation.

While Open Source as defined by its founders means something pretty
close to Free Software, it's frequently misunderstood. For more
 information, read
 http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-software-for-freedom.html

Following some links on the subject - starting I think from your home
page - I found a series of serious articles comparing GPL to BSD and etc.

For my purposes, I am happy to have what I create used by others for any
purpose, other than to profit. So think the GPL appropriate. And choose not
to spend too much energy - beyond that - educating myself on licensing
issues. Other than casually.

I hope to save my energies fighting the use of proprietary, fee-based
software in publically funded educational institutions - with whatever
allies I can find. Those interested in more ambitious and finely tuned
battles should have no reason not to be supportive of this kind of effort as
well..

Sorry but we can not accept your project because we do not host full
operating systems. We do not have the resources to host these kind of
 projects.

 Thank you for your understanding.

Understood. Its kind of a hog to put up nearly a gig, just to get started.

Any suggestions?
