OK, so use the latest complete backup you can find. May 27 if you like. But
really, there are no changes since early april.

2009-06-03 Thread Andrea Pescetti

Follow-up Comment #1, sr #106803 (project administration):

The newly found backup (May 27th) is identical to the one from April 29th, as
far as the www-it repository is concerned (as I said, we didn't update any
files in May).

So feel free to recover the one if wish, at your convenience.

Nope, just a 'git fsck' which is supposed to be read-only (and which
triggered no worrying warning, just a 'dangling commit', which happens
in lots of repos).

Hmm. Strange. You can get rid of the `dangling' warnings with `git
prune'.

[Savannah-help-public] [sr #106848] Recovery of Emacs CVS

2009-06-03 Thread Jim Meyering

Follow-up Comment #1, sr #106848 (project administration):

the CVS repository is restored, using the May 29 backups + two ChangeLog,v
files from Andreas Schwab. The git repository once again mirrors the CVS
repository, but I have not yet reenabled the cron job to keep it that way,
since a little more disk juggling is imminent.

I expect to resume automatic cvs-to-git mirroring for this repository in less
than 12 hours.

Glenn, I'm reading the details of your original request only now. Please let
me know if anything else is required.

You just mentioned latest SVN dump we havn't received any file.

Strange. Somehow, attaching the file in the browser didn't
work (although I did notice it took quite a while to upload
the file -- maybe I've exceeded the allowed upload size?).

Anyway, I noticed afterwards that the most recent commit had
been done before 20090429, so using that backup is fine. I
tried the recovered repository, and it seems to work OK.

Thanks!

[Savannah-help-public] Allowing a non-fast-forward Git push?

2009-06-03 Thread Neil Jerram
Hi there,

I just tried a non-fast-forward push to Guile's Git repo, to clean up
a recent commit error, and it was rejected:

n...@arudy:~/SW/Guile/git$ git push --force
Counting objects: 103, done.
Compressing objects: 100% (74/74), done.
Writing objects: 100% (76/76), 16.88 KiB, done.
Total 76 (delta 58), reused 4 (delta 2)
error: denying non-fast forward refs/heads/master (you should pull first)
To ssh://os...@git.sv.gnu.org/srv/git/guile.git
! [remote rejected] master - master (non-fast forward)
error: failed to push some refs to
'ssh://os...@git.sv.gnu.org/srv/git/guile.git'

I'm guessing this is because the repo has denynonfastforward set to
TRUE. Can you confirm or deny that?

In any case, can you advise what we can do so as to allow this
non-fast-forward push to succeed?

Thanks,
  Neil

Neil Jerram n...@ossau.uklinux.net writes:

OK, I'm about to try sorting this out, which will change the last 2
commits of the master branch. Please hold off doing any pulling or
pushing until I've done that and everything looks OK again.

OK, I reconstructed what I think master should be (as of right now,
including Andy's commits this evening), and tried to `git push
--force' that, but it was rejected by the server:

n...@arudy:~/SW/Guile/git$ git push --force
Counting objects: 103, done.
Compressing objects: 100% (74/74), done.
Writing objects: 100% (76/76), 16.88 KiB, done.
Total 76 (delta 58), reused 4 (delta 2)
error: denying non-fast forward refs/heads/master (you should pull first)
To ssh://os...@git.sv.gnu.org/srv/git/guile.git
! [remote rejected] master - master (non-fast forward)
error: failed to push some refs to
'ssh://os...@git.sv.gnu.org/srv/git/guile.git'

So to show my reconstruction, I pushed it as a new `njmaster' branch
instead.

I guess that the rejection above is caused either either by the repo's
denynonfastforward config being TRUE, or by a hook (such as the one
that sends changes to guile-commits) failing to handle the push.

I think it is worth sorting this out, so I'll ask the Savannah hackers
about doing whatever is needed so that the push can succeed.

(In the meantime, please feel free to add to either master or
njmaster.)

Regards,
Neil

 beuc This one is here:

 http://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/savane-cleanup.git/tree/frontend/php/css/Savannah.css

Thanks. I have two changes to propose, though it's all certainly open
to debate and personal choices. FWIW, I played around with this by
saving web page - complete in a browser on the texinfo project page
and the home page, then changing the Savannah.css in the resulting
 *_files subdir.

 1) This change switches to plain old blue for links. If that seems too
drastic, the commented-out hex color is a less-vibrant blue that
might suit.

 -a { text-decoration: none; color: #641212;}
 +a { text-decoration: none; color: #ff;} /* #0022aa */
  a:hover { text-decoration: underline; color: #c40f0f; }

Another change that would help, and more or less obviate the need for
a color change, is if the underlines were kept in the main text, and
text decoration was only turned off in the navbar. I didn't see an
easy way to do that.

For that matter, there could be underlines in the navbar too as far
as I'm concerned (just remove text-decoration: none), but I suspect
that there would be no consensus for that.

 2) I noticed in the css that #33 is apparently used for the body
text, which is, I guess, kind of a dark gray. Personally my eyes
like just plain black better.

 Wdyt?

[Savannah-hackers-public] Savannah recovery TODO

2009-06-03 Thread Sylvain Beucler
Hi Hackers,

Here are the current tasks that I think we need to do:

- Check savannah-announce if not already (last mail was a few minutes
  ago)

- Ping curse (Ward) so we can change the read-only status of
/mnt/nfs-extra/ . Currently everything was moved to disk except for
  /sources within 'vcs-noshell'
  (cf. /etc/vservers/vcs-noshell/fstab.remote)

- Once that's done, remove old data from it to make room
(ping me, lots of things are moving around, no need to lose more
  valuable data)

- Decide if restore webcvs from May 27th or attempt to recover the
last 2 days commits from www.gnu.org and www.nongnu.org; for #2,
write a script that can update the backup (faked commits).

- Write a script to check the logs and branches of the git and hg
repository, to see if one needs to be restored from May 27th (they
were all restored from April 29th, some users pushed the latest
changes, but maybe not everybody if the project is currently
  inactive)

- Import repositories when requested. If there's an old request to
import from April 29th, make sure people know there's the May 27th
backup (ask them to confirm) - cf. mail New recovery process to
  savannah-announce.

If you can work on one of these tasks, please say so :)

Not sure I understood this: can you describe it in more detail, please?

Currently the CVS working directories at www.gnu.org and
www.nongnu.org are the latest, uncorrupted state of the webpages
(replication is disabled for now). But they are just working
directories.

The idea is to parse the working directories, get the differences from
the May 27 backup, and commit them to the wedcvs repositories.

Alternatively we can just let users do that manually, as they are
doing for the sources repositories.

  - Write a script to check the logs and branches of the git and hg

Sure, I'll do in a bit. Currently we can't progress on this, because
