Quality & Security "Mesh" within the
Systems Development Life Cycle
by: Rhonda Farrell
Tuesday March 22, 2011

Synthesizing security throughout the SDLC takes the same concerted
effort as implementing quality programs across an organization.
Oftentimes, this requires that EVERYONE be empowered and responsible for
enabling and implementing these new processes in a rational, phased
approach.

This discussion highlights the benefits of ensuring security is "built
in" at every step of the SDLC versus "bolted on" at the end. Learn how
your organization can take the next step towards achieving higher levels
of both quality and security, by involving each and every person!

Rhonda Farrell Associate, Booz Allen Hamilton, is a Certified Software
Quality Engineer (CSQE), a Certified Information Systems Security
Professional (CISSP), and a Certified Secure Software Lifecycle
Professional (CSSLP). She recently earned her JD from Concord Law School
and is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Information Assurance at the
University of Fairfax. Rhonda is a Senior Member of the American
Society for Quality (ASQ) and is a Member of the Executive Board
(Membership Chair; co-chair for the LSS-SIG), for Section 509. She also
holds a board level position with the Information Systems Security
Association Northern VA (ISSA-NOVA) organization, as the VP of Education.

Additionally she participates as an officer, volunteer, or basic member
with the following organizations: Association for Computing Machinery
(ACM), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE),
Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA), International
Information Systems Security Certification Consortium, Inc. (ISC2),
National Marine Corps League (MCL), Software Development Forum
(SDForum), Silicon Valley Software Quality Association (SSQA-SV), and
Woman Marines Association (WMA).

She brings a wide breadth of experience in the operations, engineering,
security, marketing, and training areas from having previously worked
within private enterprise, state government, non-profit, educational,
and military organizations.
