Re: [scifinoir2] Bale Interested In Third Batman Film
i've said this before, but after the second Tomb Raider movie, i felt strongly that Jolie should have done a spy franchise. The movie wasn't special at all, but the adventurer, Indiana-Jones type feel had been supplanted by really more of a spy movie feel. And you know what? I dug that part. Jolie and Gerard Butler worked and I kept seeing man, if this had been written as a globetrotting spy movie, it'd be great!. This was back when there was serious talk about spinning off a spy series of flicks for Halle Berry's Jinx character from the Bond movie, a discussion that made me groan. Jolie had the presence and acting chops and I'm amazed no one ever saw the potential for her to have been a good spy. And a well done spy movie with a woman lead could have so much potential. It may be that Jolie kind of burned out doing Tomb Raider and later, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, so I get why she might be done with that kind of thing. But what an untapped opportunity I think was missed... -- Original message -- From: Martin [EMAIL PROTECTED] I'll go with Selina as well. I mentioned Talia because I read a bit of the trade about Damien last time I was at Oxford. And yes, *please*, an unknown. As for Jolie, I just picked up the latest Wizard, and a story about her upcoming actioner Wanted suggests that she's pretty much done with action flicks, wants to focus on drama. Which reminds me of the need to post something I saw in that ish... [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: if not Talia, then how about Selina Kyle--a *good* one? A sultry, slinky, dangerous-but-attractive actress as Kyel woud be cool. They'd just have to be careful not to let the romance overwhelm the movie, as the boy-meets-girl story can sometimes dilute the power of the subject matter. It'd depend on the script and the right actress, a lady with real danger and sex appeal at the same time. And no--not Angelina Jolie! How about a talented unknown? -- Original message -- From: Martin [EMAIL PROTECTED] Keith, I'd also like to see them work Talia into the mix, and maybe ever Damien, Batman's son by Talia. [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Great news, though none of the villains mentioned excites me. I've always hoped for the return of Ra's Al Ghul for the third film. Outside of the Joker, Ra's has always been my fav Batman villain, probably for how Ra's straddles the line with reality and fantasy, his being an immortal touching on elements of magic and such. As someone with vast resources and an unshakeable self-confidence, Ra's isn't some crazy psycho like the others in the Rogue's Gallery. He's more like someone with a very different ideological or world view than the Dark Knight. He reminds me more than anything in his opposition to Batman of Lex Luthor--the cool, devious, Machiavellian Lex, not the green spacesuit nutty one. Just watching Batman and Ra's stare each other down, the battle of wills searing the screen or the page, is a treat, and decidedly different from him facing the outlandishly garbed jabbering fools like Joker, Riddler, etc. Plus, Ra's *is* immortal (supposed to be) has centuries-long plans, and owes Bats some payback. So I'd love to see Liam Neeson return as Ra's and match wills with Bruce again. And wouldn't it be cool if they brought in some sexy, sensuous dark-haired beauty to play Ra's daughter? -- Original message -- From: Tracey de Morsella (formerly Tracey L. Minor) [EMAIL PROTECTED] Bale Interested In Third Batman Film http://www.syfyportal.com/news424824.html By WAYNE HALL Source: Dark Horizons Mar-18-2008 The release of The Dark Knight, the first sequel to Batman Begins, isn't far away, but already there's talk about a third film in the series, according to the Dark Horizons website. The big question is, of course, would Batman actor Christian Bale don the cape and cowl for another time? Let's wait and see, Bale said. I would, knowing the 'Dark Knight' story, like very much to complete a trilogy. And I think that knowing the story of 'The Dark Knight,' it leaves you anticipating something that really can get very, very interesting for a third. Now, the question would be: Is Chris [Nolan] going to be doing it? Because to me I find it tricky to imagine working on it without it being a collaboration with Chris. That's a promising sign because when Batman Begins was put together, a story treatment for two further films was created by director Chris Nolan and writer David Goyer. Also, Bale's deal for the 'Batman' franchise covered three films. All this means it is very likely that another Bat-sequel will happen, and it probably would be released in the summer of 2011. Who would the Caped Crusader face in that movie? Indications are that Two Face would vex Batman in the film (although if that character had anything to do with it, he would have appeared in the second

When the commie pigs took over, there's a scene when they unleash some dogs who'd been trained since pups (taken from their parents, for the pups' own good, of course). The leader pig, who's a charismatic speaker, starts in on the poor stupid, ignorant animals he's leading, making them feel all guilty and in need of confession. He convinces them that there's no room for wrong thinking in the new order, that they must purge themselves and be clean citizens. And the poor fools do it, coming forward to admit all kinds of sins such as stealing things or simply speaking out against the new regime. As each animal confesses the most minor transgressions, the dogs tear out their throats. yet on they come, like cows to the abattoir, and soon there's a pile of bleeding corpses on the ground. Is this the type of society we want, one where one either throws oneself on the razor's edge, or faces the prospect of someone else doing it? Keep this up, and soon only sexless eunuchs will be deemed clean enough to hold public office. ***8 New N.Y. governor: I smoked pot, used cocaine in my 20s Associated Press Published on: 03/24/08 NEW YORK New York's new governor, who disclosed last week that he and his wife both committed adultery several years ago, said Monday that he used cocaine in his 20s and smoked marijuana when he was younger. In reference to cocaine, Gov. David Paterson, 53, said in a television interview that he tried it a couple of times when he was about 22 or 23. And marijuana probably when I was about 20, he said on the NY1 cable news station. I don't think I touched marijuana since the '70s. More Americans have tried a lot more during that period of time and gone on to lead responsible lives and hopefully have lived their lives to their fullest, he said. Paterson was lieutenant governor under Gov. Eliot Spitzer, who resigned last week amid a prostitution scandal. Last week, Paterson and his wife, Michelle Paterson, disclosed they each had strayed from the marriage years ago. The couple were separated for a couple years at the time, David Paterson said Monday. In Monday's interview, Paterson pointed out that he had acknowledged to a television journalist in 2006 that he had used illegal drugs. The NY1 interviewer, Dominic Carter, noted that few people paid attention to Paterson's revelation then because he was running for lieutenant governor. [scifinoir2] Hillary Says She ‘Misspoke’ About Wrest ling Bin Laden
Original Message Subject:Misspeaking Shocke Date: Tue, 25 Mar 2008 09:30:14 -0400 From: borowitzreport.com [EMAIL PROTECTED] Reply-To: borowitzreport.com [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] March 25, 2008 Hillary Says She Misspoke About Wrestling Bin Laden Was Greeting Students in Orlando, Clinton Admits Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, who has been accused in recent days of padding her foreign policy resume while First Lady, admitted today that she may have exaggerated about an encounter she said she had with al-Qaeda terror mastermind Osama bin Laden in 1998. In an appearance on NBCs Meet the Press on Sunday, Sen. Clinton told host Tim Russert, I wrestled bin Laden in his cave in 1998 and had him pinned to the ground before the bastard got away. But a review of Sen. Clintons official White House schedule from that period revealed that the then-First Lady was nowhere in the vicinity of Mr. bin Laden on that day, but was instead greeting a group of honor roll students at Disney World in Orlando. I may have misspoke about what went on that particular day, Sen. Clinton said today. But it was a very busy time for me, what with having that knife-fight with Kim Jong-Il and all. Reporters peppered Sen. Clintons new press spokesman with questions about another purported exploit of hers, in which the senator claimed that she and a ragtag team of blue-collar drillers deflected an asteroid on a collision course with the Earth. Everything Hillary Clinton says is true, said her new spokesman, the author James Frey. www.borowitzreport.com Waste Someone's Time: Forward to a Friend: http://email.borowitzreport.com/cgi-bin/redir?MCid=A9nDGeXIdE10403ecd0a[EMAIL PROTECTED]rec=6852 Sign up today for your own Borowitz Reports, click the link below or paste it into your browser. http://email.borowitzreport.com/cgi-bin/redir?MCid=VSeKch1Bya10403ecd0a ***Andy in Montreal April 8*** Andy makes his first-ever appearance in Canada on Tuesday, April 8 at the Jewish Public Library in Montreal. 7:30 PM, 5151 Côte Ste-Catherine; admission free. ***Andys Only West Coast Appearance April 24*** Andy makes his only scheduled West Coast appearance Thursday, April 24 at University of California, Santa Barbara. 8 PM at Campbell Hall. [scifinoir2] Pegg Plays Scotty in `Star Trek' Movie, Up to Star in 3 Potential Trek Movies
http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5g7_I0u8-HMjQlYSyy7nbsTu0CVogD8VKJ7L81 Pegg Plays Scotty in `Star Trek' Movie By DERRIK J. LANG - 1 hour ago LOS ANGELES (AP) - Simon Pegg won't be beaming up any differences for his take on starship Enterprise's chief engineer Scotty in the upcoming Star Trek film. I am playing `Scotty,' but James Doohan is `Scotty,' Pegg told The Associated Press at the Run Fatboy Run premiere afterparty at Les Deux nightclub Monday night. Doohan played Scotty in the '60s TV series and in several movies. I tried to approach the role like he did. He's a Scottish engineer who works in outerspace. He's a bit of a brawler. I didn't try to facilitate change, the 38-year-old British actor said. In Run Fatboy Run, which opens Friday, Pegg wears short-shorts as an fumbling Londoner who begins training for a marathon to impress his ex. He's more coy about what his Montgomery Scotty Scott will look like in the J.J. Abrams-directed Star Trek, expected on the big screen next year. I couldn't possibly tell you what I wear in `Star Trek,' Pegg said. Pegg said he finished shooting the film, which stars Chris Pine as Capt. James T. Kirk and Zachary Quinto as Spock, last week. Pegg said he's signed up to star in three potential Trek movies. I'm looking forward to doing that for the next few years, he said. Hopefully, I'll do a lot in between, too. Other celeb attendees at the Run Fatboy Run premiere included Pegg's co-stars Thandie Newton, India de Beaufort and Harish Patel; Oscar winner Diablo Cody; Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie of HBO's Flight of the Conchords; and John Krasinski, Eddie Izzard and Jonathan Silverman. Two MORE Star Trek films? set PRE-TOS? So we're all supposed to pretend the whole show never happened? By the time THREE of these movies are done it will be 2013!! We will NEVER pick up where the stories left off. I knew this was a bad idea to do a prequel. [scifinoir2] Galaxy Quest
I had the pleasure of watching Galaxy Quest yesterday (it was on satellite). A spoof of the original Star Trek series and the twenty years its stars spent in the acting wilderness, appearing at comicons and supermarket openings, Quest is delightful in its many conceits. The main conceit is right out of the Star Trek playbook: an benign alien race has intercepted television transmissions of the original Galaxy Quest program and has misinterpreted them as historical documents. They have recreated everything from the series and have come to retrieve the original cast members to save them from annihilation at the hands of the Sarris, a scaly-skinned evil-doer. Galaxy Quest is clever and amusing and makes great use of its excellent cast which includes Tim Allen as the starship commander, Sigourney Weaver as the hot communications officer, Alan Rickman as the alien science officer, Tony Shalhoub as the head of engineering, Daryl Mitchell as the child navigator who has since grown into a man and Sam Rockwell as the crewman with no last name who always gets killed. As they have proven in other venues, Richman and Shalhoub are superb in their respective parts. Trivia note 1: Mathesar, the eternally blissed alien leader, is played by Enrico Colatoni - Keith (Veronica Mars' daddy) from the Veronica Mars series. Trivia note 2: Galaxy Quest also marks the first big screen appearance of Justin Long, the Mac guy from the Apple Computer ads. Long plays a teenage Galaxy Quest fanatic who's encyclopedic knowledge of the show's arcane details plays an integral part in saving the day. I have seen Galaxy Quest many times and still find it a pleasant way to salt away a couple of hours. ~rave!

yeah, it's a great movie. I own it too. I recognize the actor playing Veronica Mars' father more from his days as Elliot on the great comedy Just Shoot Me. [EMAIL PROTECTED] Couldn't agree with you more Keith, and he's 'my' governor too. Amy [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: My goodness, gracious, what else is buddy gonna confess? This is crazy: have we become such a peeping tom, judgemental society that everyone has to confess their sins in order to head off the revelation of said sins later by their enemies? I mean, man, i don't car how many times he had a rendezvous with a paramour, long as tax payers didn't pay for it. Don't care if he smoked dope back in the day, long as he doesn't do it now. Guess with Spitzer, Craig, Kilpatrick in Detroit (and ain't that a sad one?) it's all about outing yourself before someone else does. Anyone remember Animal Farm? ***8 New N.Y. governor: I smoked pot, used cocaine in my 20s Associated Press Published on: 03/24/08 NEW YORK - New York's new governor, who disclosed last week that he and his wife both committed adultery several years ago, said Monday that he used cocaine in his 20s and smoked marijuana when he was younger.
