Re: [scifinoir2] Heroes: What did you think?
I love this show. I loved this first episode. Sign me up for the season pass. That being said, I have two problems with the show that are serious. 1. I do not like Nikki. At all. I do not like her in a can. I do not like her in a van. I do not like her with two personalities. I do not like her with one. I do not like her with three. I have not liked her from day one. I don't like the actress. I don't like the character, its all just one big PROBLEM. If Heroes is a comic book, Ali Larter is playing Billy Batson's sister, and while I'm sure there are people who like Mary Batson, once the TV show came out and there WAS no Mary, she became irrelevant. I keep feeling like they are making up reasons to keep her in the show...like it's her camera or someting, and without her there's no show. Secondly, and almost equally annoying, is my girl from Mexico. She's so bad I can't remember her name. Another poorly written character with a poor actress reading the lines. It has become clear that no consensus has developed to support the administration's proposal, McCain said in remarks released by his campaign. I do not believe that the plan on the table will pass as it currently stands, and we are running out of time. McCain, the GOP presidential nominee, portrayed his action as bipartisan and urgent, seeking to present himself as decisive and a man of action, at a time when polls show him beginning to trail his Democratic rival because of the shaky economy. Tomorrow morning, I will suspend my campaign and return to Washington after speaking at the Clinton Global Initiative, McCain said. I have spoken to Senator Obama and informed him of my decision and have asked him to join me. Obama did not immediately respond. I am calling on the president to convene a meeting with the leadership from both houses of Congress, including Senator Obama and myself. It is time for both parties to come together to solve this problem.

Brent, I've *never* been a fan of the man's work. A lot of people I know praise his acting skills and so on, but he leaves me frosty almost every time. And then there's the Wil Wheaton Incident, when he snubbed the poor kid on the Paramount set. He's just not a class act. -Original Message- From: brent wodehouse Sent: 9/23/2008 3:51:22 PM To: scifinoir2@yahoogroups.com Subject: Re: [scifinoir2] Shatner Blasts Trek's Abrams Please tell us, Martin, do. Re: [scifinoir2] Shatner Blasts Trek's Abrams
Omari, because this is nothing but H'Wood's attempt to suck your perfectly good money out of your wallet. If they gave a dang about the franchise, then, IMO, they would make some effort to pick up at a plot point left hanging. Such as the exit of one Captain Benjamin LaFayette Sisko... Also, I feel that the franchise has long since worn out its welcome. As I said here before (some months ago), when Enterprise hung up its shingle in '05, Trek had been on the air, almost non-stop, for *nineteen years*. Personally, I was sick of it by then, really hoping that it would be shelved for several years. -Original Message- From: Omari Confer Sent: 9/23/2008 9:16:39 AM To: scifinoir2@yahoogroups.com Subject: Re: [scifinoir2] Shatner Blasts Trek's Abrams Why are you not going to see this movie again? The screenplay is by Seth Rogen Evan Goldberg, who will also executive produce. Neal H. Moritz is the producer through his Original Film production company. In tapping Chow to helm The Green Hornet, Sony Pictures Entertainment continues a long association with the star and director. Under its local language initiative, Sony co-produced and released Chow's Kung Fu Hustle, which went on to gross over $100 million worldwide and received a Golden Globe nomination as well as six Hong Kong Film Awards and five Taiwan Golden Horse Awards. Sony also released CJ7. Commenting on the announcement, Tolmach said, When Seth, Evan, and Neal said they wanted Stephen Chow to be part of The Green Hornet, it was a fantasy. Now that it's happening, it's almost too good to be true. Stephen's been a very important part of the Sony family for many years, so it's truly serendipitous for us to be moving forward with him directing the movie and starring as Kato. Chow added, I'm excited to be taking on The Green Hornet #8211 obviously, I've been a huge fan of the show since I was a kid. The idea of stepping into Bruce Lee's shoes as Kato is both humbling and thrilling, and to get the chance to direct the project as my American movie debut is simply a dream come true. I'm grateful to my friends at Sony, who have shown so much faith in me for so many years. I'm looking forward to working with Seth, Evan, Neal, and the team at Sony, and I'm eager to get started. Moritz said, The Green Hornet is a dream project and it's come together in a dream way. Seth will be fantastic in the lead role, and Stephen was the only name on the list for Kato. The material is a perfect match for his sensibilities #8211 Stephen in the director's chair is the best thing for the film. Rogen said, Stephen was always my and Evan's first choice for director and to play Kato. We just hope that he never finds out we're not the Wachowski Brothers. Ori Marmur will serve as the Executive Producer of the film. Re: [scifinoir2] Longoria in Avengers?
Time for this game already? Eva Longoria as the Wasp and she's going to be laughed out of Hollywood. In a mob lead by Jessica Alba. One bad casting job in a Marvel franchise is enough, thanks. If her agent has ever read a comic book, he/she is not trying to hear anything but the name Wanda Maximoff. Longoria is Scarlet Witch all day long. Longoria in Avengers? Sexy housewife could be desperate for a role in Marvel movie. by Brian Linder September 15, 2008 - It's not official, but there are signs that point to Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria being up for a role in the upcoming Avengers movie. It all started when this celeb gossip site posted recently-snapped pictures of Longoria leaving the Marvel offices clutching (she's practically holding them up for the camera) a stack of what are clearly Avengers comics. So, who would she play? Comics2Film and the LA Times Blog are both speculating that Longoria is up for the role of the winsome Wasp -- not too hard to connect those dots as the character has been a standout member of the superhero team since the beginning. Janet van Dyne/Wasp is a mutant who can deliver a deadly sting through her hands, and has the capability to shrink her body to insect-size. She flies with a set of retractable wings. In the comics, Janet has been married to volatile scientist Hank Pym (Ant-Man/Giant-Man), and has been close with Captain America. Marvel, ABC The Wasp, it's also interesting to note, is one of Marvel's most diva-ish female characters, with her sense of entitlement and penchant for shopping. Point being that it's not that big of a stretch from characters Longoria has played in the past -- except for the superpowers. While we're not spending our free time tracking celebrity hairstyles, we have noted that the lovely Longoria has been sporting a significantly shorter hairdo of late -- a cut perfectly fitting for that Wasp wardrobe fitting or screen test. Finally, let's not forget that Edgar Wright is making the Ant-Man movie, so she could presumably appear in that as well as Avengers. What do you think of Longoria as Wasp? [scifinoir2] Knight Rider Premieres on NBC Tonight
Anyone else gonna waste a few brain cells on this? Well, I'm going on four decades pretty much watching everything scifi or speculative fiction related that premieres on TV, so I guess this is no different. Although the TV movie sucked beyond belief, although it actually made the Hasselhoff show from the '70s look *better*, Imma be a sucker and watch the Knight Rider series debut tonight. It looks really bad: bad plotting, cliched characters, lame music. But I could use a bit of amusing distraction nowadays, so hopefully it'll provide some camp fun, full of laughable moments, implausibilities, and outright ludicrousness to groan at and criticize. And if not--there's always the Prez's speech following! *** http://www.nbc.com/Knight_Rider/about/ On the heels of NBC's hit movie, the iconic 1980s television classic comes roaring back to life as a reinvented, updated and super-charged action series showcasing the new KITT (Knight Industries Three Thousand). Absolutely the coolest car ever created, KITT is equipped with an AI (artificial intelligence) that is capable of hacking almost any system. Its weapons systems match that of a jet fighter, and its body is capable of actually transforming into other vehicles and using sophisticated holographic imagery to elude villains. Knight Rider stars Justin Bruening (Cold Case), Deanna Russo (NCIS), Sydney Tamiia Poitier (Veronica Mars), Bruce Davison (Breach), Yancey Arias (Kingpin) and Paul Campbell (Battlestar Galactica). David Bartis (Heist, The O.C.), Doug Liman (Mr. and Mrs. Smith, The Bourne Identity) and Gary Scott Thompson (Las Vegas, The Fast and The Furious) are executive producers. Based on characters created by Glen Larson, Knight Rider is from Universal Media Studios and Dutch Oven Productions. Credits Day time: Wednesdays (8-9 p.m. ET) on NBC Original premiere date: September 24, 2008 Starring: Justin Bruening, Deanna Russo, Sydney Tamiia Poitier, Paul Campbell, Yancey Arias and Bruce Davison Recurring: Smith Cho Executive producers: Gary Scott Thompson, Dave Bartis, Doug Liman, Matt Pyken Based on characters created by: Glen Larson

Some things need to be tweaked but they seemed addressed some of last year's flaws. These two hours had more progress than most of last season. There were some nice plot reveals, a few characters are back in altered forms and there is an actual sense of danger again. They have lots of balls in the air and I want to see how they weave all these plot elements together by the end of the season. It looks like a fun ride. [scifinoir2] `Pan's Labyrinth' director writing vampire trilogy
Sep 24th, 2008 | NEW YORK -- Pan's Labyrinth director Guillermo del Toro is collaborating with crime author Chuck Hogan on a trilogy of vampire novels, starting next summer with The Strain. The idea is epic in scope, del Toro said in a statement issued Wednesday by publisher William Morrow, an imprint of HarperCollins. The trilogy advances in unexpected ways and each book contains unique and surprising revelations about the history, physiology and lore of the vampiric race, tracing its roots all the way back to its Old Testament origins. The 43-year-old Del Toro, whose films include the Hellboy movies, Mimic and The Devil's Backbone, is best known for Pan's Labyrinth, a surreal take on the Spanish Civil War that came out in 2006 and won three Academy Awards, for makeup, art direction and cinematography. Hogan's novels include The Blood Artists, The Killing Moon and Prince of Thieves, which is being adapted into a feature film, starring and directed by Ben Affleck. http://www.salon.com/wires/ap/entertainment/2008/09/24/D93DETP80_people_del_ toro/index.htmlb
