As soon as I can scare up a free moment, I plan on it. sancochojo [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Its not even worth getting angry over someones personal page. Most people don't even know much of white american accomplisments let alone black american accomplishments. We as a society say thank you for what you gave society then we move on. There are a couple of books published that list every single Black and important patent submitted by Black Americans. If someone challenges you, use that as your of challenging their ignorance. I noticed he challenged George Washington Carvers accomplishement, yet people like Alexander Graham Bell and Henry Ford all wanted to give him a 6 figure salary for his services and he turned it down to stay at tuskeegee Univ for $1200 a year. He has an email address, challenge him with facts and don't get mad. If those accomplishments were true, then so be it, but if you can prove different, it doesn't hurt to challenge him. I don't want us to be proud over a lie if that is the case. Some of his arguments are very vague even with his references. I think he could be challenged. --- In scifinoir2@yahoogroups.com, Amanda [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: It's funny they don't mind to talk about inventions that white people this decade have done that were actually invented hundred or so years before. Re: [scifinoir2] Re: OT...did blacks do these things or not?
I knew most of what was said in that article already...Most of the stuff they mentioned was a very small part of those inventors' contribution, i.e., Garrett Morgan did not invent the first gas mask, he invented one that was inexpensive and practical over the big and bulky apparatuses tat were being used. It didn't hurt that he happened along at a point in history where it made a difference. No one knowledgeable ever said George Washington Carver Invented peanut butter. He actually promoted the idea of swapping the weevil-blighted cotton crops with peanuts to save the economy of the south. This writer, though has stated some facts about the inaccuracy of some historic claims, but only enough to plant seeds of doubt in the mind of the person who tends to believe only the first things he reads...He has a point though; If we truly want to know EXACTLY what Black inventors contribution have been, we really need to research them thoroughly. I witnessed a 'Black History Jeopardy' tournament at the university I am attending for college prep courses where almost all of the questions on black Entrepreneurs and Inventors went almost totally unansweredI was very embarrassed...
