App::perlbrew would be a simple, non intrusive way of upgrading just. http://search.cpan.org/dist/App-perlbrew/ perlbrew init perlbrew install perl-5.12.1 -D=useithreads perlbrew switch perl-5.12.1 cpan/pip the stuff again. You should set the PERLBREW_ROOT before doing init. Sorry I should have mentioned it. rm -rf perl5 and that line from .bashrc.
