[sdre-l]: Another occurence
it just occured to me upon closer inspection of the halo on the "angel" that it seems to be one of those halos that is held up by a wire rod (usually connected near the neck or wings or something like that). i wonder if that has a deeper meaning any more thoughts on that possibility?? i can't pin it right now as for i need my sleep... more finals tomorrow. boy my mind has just been full of imagination in the last couple days! woohoo!!! jason np: guitar and video games
[sdre-l]: SDRE goods
Hey, I don't know if this'll get through but I've put some SDRE stuff on eBay - check it out: http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemitem=235229081 http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemitem=238131705
[sdre-l]: SDRE live video
Is it just my copy of the live video, or does the picture and audio get out sync in places? Because it's really frustrating for me to even watch the video now since the audio gets so far out of time. Nothing is more annoying than seeing a cymbal get hit, then hearing it a half second later. -just curious, alex __ Do You Yahoo!? Talk to your friends online with Yahoo! Re: [sdre-l]: POL/round/Far
Just wanted to let people know I found an old thirty ought six recording with jeremy enigk doing vocals on one of the tracks. If anyone is interested, let me know. its good stuff. yes, i have heard of far, and they were not an emo band. Theyd actually cringe that you would say that. Far was a rock band. period. But yes, they were a good band and you should check out what they are doing now. Jonah ( the singer) is doing his solo stuff called one line drawing. Shawn Lopez, the very talentet guitarist, is getting together his new band called smile revolution. Check it out...good stuff. word. out.
Re: [sdre-l]: Just appeared to me...
well, the most excellent "song about an angel" is included on the disc... maybe a nod to that song? or maybe we're just a bunch of sunny day freaks who over-analyze everything. :) i know i am... all my friends are sick of hearing my different insights on the "diary" artwork. oh well. luke --Original Message-- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: January 18, 2000 11:15:33 PM GMT Subject: Re: [sdre-l]: Just appeared to me... at first i thought it might be another head of a person but the more i look at it, the more it just seems to look like an angel
[sdre-l]: Audio out of sunc
Yes, the audio on the live video is VERY out of sync in places. Now, maybe I might be nitpicking, and prone to notice this sort of thing, but it just looks sloppy. If you can watch the tape and NOTICE (without anyone telling you beforehand) that the audio and video don't match, that's really tacky. Is anyone else as bothered by this as me? Mike P.S. Anyone get the new remixed Yellow Submarine soundtrack? I noticed something similar on the CD. The vocals tend to hang back, as if the transfer from A to D was done track by track or something. Check out Eleanor Rigby specifically...
Re: [sdre-l]: E.E. Cummings and Jeremy Enigk
i absolutely adore E.E. Cummings! i never even thought about the similarities between his poetry and Jeremy's lyrics. i think i shall have to start comparing the two. and you all should definently read his stuff. it is amazing. agnes In a message dated 1/14/00 8:51:50 AM Pacific Standard Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Hello SDRE-l. I have been studying the lyrics of Jeremy Enigk and Sunny Day Real Estate for awhile..and i have come up with a few ideas. Has anyone ever heard of the famous poet E.E. Cummings? If not you should all go check him out. His poetry has amazing similarities to Sunny Day Real Estates lyrics. I have heard that E.E Cummings is Jeremy's favorite poet, and his lyrics are said to mimic Cummings style of poetry. If anyone has a chance you should check it out...it is really bizarre. On another note, i own a huge encyclopedia like book on e.e. cummings poetryin the intro, cummings says: "For Marion"i noticed that in the booklet for HIFTBSO, Jeremy thanks someone named "Marion"...i'm wondering if that is any insight to where Jeremy gets his ideas from...? I would like to hear some thoughts on that. I also have tons of sdre rare stuff and whatnot...email me and possibly there could be a trade in the works...take care.
Re: [sdre-l]: POL/round/Far
two things. first off, somebody mentioned onelinedrawing, and they are absolutely awesome, at least what i've heard of them. i don't buy new cds, so i have trouble sometimes getting albums, but i heard a song called "julianna" off of some "emo" sampler, and it rocked me. okay, the other thing. i was talking to this guy, and he said he went to the same high school as will, i guess about the same time, too. he said that will used to play drums so hard in school that he would wear those big tech-ed goggles when he played so his broken drum sticks wouldn't get in his eyes. i thought that was really funny, and awesome. does anyone else have any funny sdre rumors/urbanlegends/what have you? jon nowplaying: jon thompson orchestra - "float" Far was a rock band. period. i know of far, they were awesome, im friends with jonah. and if youre interested he's getting ready to release "sktechey #2" but i dont know if it will be on crank or not as far as your take on "round" youre just sick man lol =) and jeremy and willy also played in reason for hate b/4 sdre and the orginal incarnation of 764-hero. -steve. Re: [sdre-l]: Far and 5/4
i always thought about it literally... i never even thought about it the other way until you just brought it up... could go either way... but since enigk has played with a few christian bands and supposidly is/was a christian, then it's probably literal... but who knows? I still don't know if i am clarifying this correctly to get the kind of response i am looking for, but we'll see. please post your thoughts on this. it should make good list discussion. concerning Far: If you can name a band it always seems someone on the sdre-l knows them too. [sdre-l]: 5/4
He is talking about Jesus. Jeremy is Christian. There is also a picture of him in all Tooth Nail clothes which is a christian record label. The lyrics he is talking about is exactly what Christianity is built on. The love of Jesus Christ. I hope I have answered your question. Casey
Re: [sdre-l]: Far and 5/4
Disclaimer: this is only my opinion; I haven't actually talked to Jeremy or anything :) I see where you're coming from and it is an interesting thought, but I would think that in the song "5/4" (incredible...of course) he is specifically referring to Jesus Christ. As everyone and their mother knows, Jeremy became a Christian before recording LP2 and several of the songs on the album reflect this change in his life. Just my $.02, for what it's worth. ---luke On Wed, 19 Jan 2000 15:11:16 -0700 [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: 5/4: at the end of the song, Jeremy sings something along the lines of I'm Lost In You Open My Eyes You Set Me Free Won't Lift Me Up You Held Me I'm Lost In You You're Jesus okay, you still with me? now my question is this: Is Jeremy saying all of what this person has done for him, and identifying that person as being Jesus? or is he saying these things about someone and then using Jesus as a metaphor? Re: [sdre-l]: Far and 5/4
hello, I could be wrong, but from what I understand and read and heard is that Jeremy Enigk became a christian. He then wanted to sing songs about God. The band didn't want to do that so they broke up. They all agreed to get back together a couple of years later and let Jeremy express his views through his songs about God but not so explicitly. I don't know how far away Jeremy came from the one he claims to follow since then. What song did he say this in? Jeremiah YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! Re: [sdre-l]: Another occurence
If it looks like it's just a halo on a stick, on the cover of the live CD, maybe there IS no deep meaning or special significance, it's just supposed to be a fan going to the show in tribute to the Song About An Angel. Also, in regard to dmarchant1's question, to call someone Jesus, other than the Messiah Himself, or even to compare, would be blasphemy. So I think he's directly addressing Jesus. But that's just my take on it, having heard that Jeremy's a devout Christian. okay...this whole 5/4 thing was debated this past summer on the listthe archives are kept at http://www.mail-archive.com/sdre-l@sixfootone.com/ i personally thought that this song was written before jeremy became a born again christian because it is on many bootlegs from before they broke up with the same exact lyrics, however i could be wrong. just remember lyrics can mean whatever you want them to. joe
