it seems to be one of those halos that is held up by a wire rod (usually
connected near the neck or wings or something like that). i wonder if that
has a deeper meaning any more thoughts on that possibility?? i can't
pin it right now as for i need my sleep... more finals tomorrow. boy my mind

[sdre-l]: SDRE live video

2000-01-19 Thread Alexander Cando

Is it just my copy of the live video, or does the
picture and audio get out sync in places? Because
it's really frustrating for me to even watch the video
now since the audio gets so far out of time. Nothing
is more annoying than seeing a cymbal get hit, then
hearing it a half second later.

Just wanted to let people know I found an old thirty ought six recording with
jeremy enigk doing vocals on one of the tracks. If anyone is interested, let
me know. its good stuff.

yes, i have heard of far, and they were not an emo band. Theyd actually
cringe that you would say that. Far was a rock band. period. But yes, they
were a good band and you should check out what they are doing now. Jonah (
the singer) is doing his solo stuff called one line drawing. Shawn Lopez, the
very talentet guitarist, is getting together his new band called smile
revolution. Check it out...good stuff.

well, the most excellent "song about an angel" is included on the disc...
maybe a nod to that song? or maybe we're just a bunch of sunny day freaks

[sdre-l]: Audio out of sunc

2000-01-19 Thread Mike Pumphrey

Yes, the audio on the live video is VERY out of sync in places. Now, maybe
I might be nitpicking, and prone to notice this sort of thing, but it just
looks sloppy. If you can watch the tape and NOTICE (without anyone telling
you beforehand) that the audio and video don't match, that's really tacky.

Is anyone else as bothered by this as me?

Mike

P.S. Anyone get the new remixed Yellow Submarine soundtrack? I noticed
something similar on the CD. The vocals tend to hang back, as if the
transfer from A to D was done track by track or something. Check out
Eleanor Rigby specifically...

similarities to Sunny Day Real Estates lyrics. I have
heard that E.E Cummings is Jeremy's favorite poet, and
his lyrics are said to mimic Cummings style of poetry.
If anyone has a chance you should check it out...it is

two things. first off, somebody mentioned onelinedrawing, and they are
absolutely awesome, at least what i've heard of them. i don't buy new cds,
so i have trouble sometimes getting albums, but i heard a song called
"julianna" off of some "emo" sampler, and it rocked me.
okay, the other thing. i was talking to this guy, and he said he went to the
same high school as will, i guess about the same time, too. he said that
will used to play drums so hard in school that he would wear those big
tech-ed goggles when he played so his broken drum sticks wouldn't get in his
eyes. i thought that was really funny, and awesome. does anyone else have
any funny sdre rumors/urbanlegends/what have you?

Around '89-'90 Jeremy was in a band called Tears For The King with
members of poor old lu (POL got their name from The Voyage of the Dawn
Treader by C.S.Lewis)
i was at their site and i found an unoffcial website @

You know the song "Round"off of Diary? it reminds me of that song "put a
little love in your heart" off the movie Sgrooged. Does any one know what
i'm talking about or am i sick in the head.
Out of all these bands that you guys talk about i wonder if i'm the only
one who has heard of Far. They are probably the second best "emo"band
ever. Even though they are no longer around they definitly kicked ass.I
mean the even had a song on buffy the vampire slayer once. sometimes you
know when you've arrived.

i always thought about it literally... i never even thought about it the
other way until you just brought it up... could go either way... but since
enigk has played with a few christian bands and supposidly is/was a

being Jesus? or is he saying these things about someone and then using
Jesus as a metaphor? in other words, is he literally talking about
Jesus, or comparing someone else to Jesus? I still don't know if i am
clarifying this correctly to get the kind of response i am looking for,
but we'll see. please post your thoughts on this. it should make good
list discussion.

concerning Far: If you can name a band it always seems someone on the
sdre-l knows them too. I've heard them and I also believe they are
among the best emo bands, if you can really call them that. They played
a show here in SLC utah a few years back that i remember.

[sdre-l]: 5/4

2000-01-19 Thread Casey Linstrum

He is talking about Jesus. Jeremy is Christian. There is also a picture of
him in all Tooth Nail clothes which is a christian record label. The
lyrics he is talking about is exactly what Christianity is built on. The
love of Jesus Christ. I hope I have answered your question.

Disclaimer: this is only my opinion; I haven't actually talked to Jeremy
or anything :)
I see where you're coming from and it is an interesting thought, but I
would think that in the song "5/4" (incredible...of course) he is
specifically referring to Jesus Christ. As everyone and their mother
knows, Jeremy became a Christian before recording LP2 and several of the
songs on the album reflect this change in his life. Just my $.02, for
what it's worth.

Re: [sdre-l]: Far and 5/4

2000-01-19 Thread Jeremiah T Cox

hello,
I could be wrong, but from what I understand and read and heard is that
Jeremy Enigk became a christian. He then wanted to sing songs about God.
The band didn't want to do that so they broke up. They all agreed to get
back together a couple of years later and let Jeremy express his views
through his songs about God but not so explicitly. I don't know how far
away Jeremy came from the one he claims to follow since then. What song
did he say this in?
Jeremiah

2000-01-19 Thread Andy Rusk

If it looks like it's just a halo on a stick, on the cover of the live
CD, maybe there IS no deep meaning or special significance, it's just
supposed to be a fan going to the show in tribute to the Song About An
Angel. Also, in regard to dmarchant1's question, to call someone Jesus,
other than the Messiah Himself, or even to compare, would be blasphemy.
So I think he's directly addressing Jesus. But that's just my take on
it, having heard that Jeremy's a devout Christian. Peace out,

okay...this whole 5/4 thing was debated this past summer on the listthe

i personally thought that this song was written before jeremy became a born
again christian because it is on many bootlegs from before they broke up with
the same exact lyrics, however i could be wrong. just remember lyrics can mean
whatever you want them to.
