[sdre-l]: a rising tide review

2000-06-22 Thread specofficia

dear list,
after being swept away by the ocean and sensing focus and harmony in the song
one, i eagerly anticipated with an open mind the brand-new sunny day real estate. like
many who have posted before, i chose not to listen to the album until the release
date; call me a dork, but i believe there is something about the moment that you lay
your hands/eyes on something you have never encountered before but know that it is
special(for me that would be the new CD). if i would have to make a comparison of the
feeling i had when i purchased and listened for the first time to the CD, it would be
of a child having something that they are not able to comprehend, but yet understood
somehow that it was special. my first listen to the album left me in a state of
aporia. after the last track played, i had an overwhelming urge to listen to the CD
again, but this time with headphones because i knew there were many nuances i had
missed while listening to it on speakers.

after several listens to the album and regaining my bearings, my initial feelings
have matured to sensations of awe and bewilderment of the complexities of each song.
yet at the same time when i forget to remember about my interest and passion in the
music, i feel a sense of unity pouring out into my ears. and its strange because i
don't think i have ever gotten that kind of feeling listening to a sunny day album
before, but then again it must be written that each album has its own feel. there is
a part of me that wants to disect and analyze the songs in this album like i have done
in the past with other sunny day songs (e.g. production, musicianship, theory, etc.),
but there is something holding me back from doing so this time. perhaps it is the
thought that when a thing is broken down, a part of that thing is lost in the breaking
process (in some sense i guess what is lost is the unity of the thing). not trying to
sound too much like a buddhist, but if i had to describ!
!
!
!
e the music on the new album i would have to write that the lyrics and the playing of
the instruments that produce the sounds create the potential for the unifying effect,
but what completes the effect is the one listening to it all. and i guess with this
unity brings clarity and peace. i would like to write so much more about the feeling
of the album, but then i think what more would i write?

does anyone see what i am getting at? or am i just being a looney? i am curious as
to what other think/feel about the album.

peace,
-peter

2000-02-19 Thread specofficia

put the mp3 on my own site and to those who want can click on the following link:
(html-based email)

http://www.baylor.edu/~ISA/risen.mp3

if someone has the hotline software working, could you please post the mp3.

p.s. i think the recording is from a mic setup to an analog tape. also yes the above

[sdre-l]: timebomb site

2000-01-12 Thread specofficia

i read earlier on the timebombrecordings.com web site that the band was in the studio
recording their songs and a possible release date of the next album would be sometime
in the summer this year.

i went back to the site today (1/12) and they had taken down what i read. so it could
be true or not.

for the curious,
-peter

[sdre-l]: SDRE Live CD Pre-Orders

1999-10-09 Thread specofficia

Everyone probably already knows this but SubPop is taking pre-orders for the new
double EP/CD SDRE Live.
SubPop is also selling a SDRE Live video cassette as well.

Check it out at:
http://www.subpop.com/orders/sdre_frames.html

   Later On,
Peter

p.s. I called today to place an order and I was told to call back Friday (10/8)
because they didn't have the item in the computer yet. Also the release date for both
is October 19, like that needed to be written.
