I'm on a slow connection so I can't try it right now on 0.6 and compare if it only happens for me on 0.6d2. What currently works for me on 0.6d2 is to turn off ejabberd in the SysV scripts and just start ejabberd manually using ejabberdctl start. Of course this doesn't give me the nifty stuff like the autoconfiguration/detection which init.d/ejabberd provides. So it must be something in the way ejabberd is started in the SysV script? > 2.
