Yes, Todd is the man. Really good, clean, smooth and benchflowed porting
 work.
 Highly recommended.

Is there a better ported/big valve head built by someone else? DEFINITLEY
 NOT!!!Probably. But
at that point you should seriously consider going 16 valve or pay a lot more
money. You will not find anyone else more reasonable.

Are you absolutely sure?
Steve had alot of guidance from 2 very important people involed in
performance cylinder heads. The man Steve worked for is currently doing
Pro-Stock Hemi heads. He was a major contribution to Steve's work. He is
also nationally known as the man you go to for Super Stock small block Chevy
heads. No arguing this as the person I bought my flowbench from sold it to
me because he said he was fortunate enough to get a set of his heads for his
SS car. He told me his small block headwork is nationally known as being #1
and this was before I knew who he was talking about. The other mentor
is someone who likes to remain anonymous and has a 240cfm head at only .430
lift.That is substantially better than a T-III 16v head.

Not knocking anyone elses work, but just pointing out that maybe you should
know a bit more about Menegan's work before writing him off or considering
his work inferior.Same goes for Todd, right? That being said, I
myself, would like to hear some of Todd's background, too.

What are Todd's flow #s? I haven't heard of his work, either.
With Steve's heads, you get all new hardware and his big valve heads
are flowtested and guaranteed to be 205+cfm. His prices are much better
than the vendors big valve heads and also perform wy better. A good
looking port that is smooth and polished meticulously means absolutely
nothing. I speak from experience as I own a flowbench and do porting for
myself (and have seen other's work).140 cfm (stock) up to an honest 205+
cfm from a stock casting is just sick as that's almost a 50% gain. I know

Re: SD Re: 8v performance head

2004-12-29 Thread andy b
I emailed him the other day and this is the response I
got. Also, as I understand it if you are thinking
about going with big valves ytou should strongly
consider the 16v conversion. Any way here is part of
what he sent me.

1- The big valve heads will flow OVER 200 CFM intake
and 155 exhaust @.500 lift @ 28. They run about $1600
on the average.

2- The next level down is a +1mm valve using stock
seats. Around 185/145 CFM. Usually around $1000-1100.

3- The third variation is giving customers the most
bang for the buck. I concentrate on combustion chamber
and bowl work (usually around 10 hours of porting).
This typically flows around 180/ 140 CFM and runs
around $800 after complete valve job etc. Usually
install bronze liners in lieu of more expensive guide
replacement. Uses either back cut or +1mm stainless
valves.

These prices are with a good pressure checked core
requiring no welding, seat replacement, time serts
(heli coils), etc. That will be extra if needed. All
heads receive the following:
Head is obviously cleaned and bead blasted. Oil galley
frost plugs are removed and tapped for 3/8 NPT
socketed plug. I put good bronze / mag. guides with
clips on option 1 and 2, new springs, hardened
keepers, Machine work done using Serti equipment.
Obviously all tip heights, spring heights, heads cc'd
and deck straightened. Options include spring choice,
machined keepers, titanium retainers, bronze guides,
etc. Camshaft, lifters and followers are somewhat a
personal choice. I would say about 50% of heads I do,
I do complete, while the other 50% owner installs
camshaft of their choice.

When I last talked with Steve Menegan the cheapest
head he did was about $1100. I have heard that he is
no doing stuf in the $800 dollar range now. When I get
the money I will talk with Steve again and find out
more about his cheaper headwork.

The one thing I know about headwork is that any moron
can make a head flow well on the bench but it takes
and artist to make it flow well while keeping the
velocity high. Because a head that flows well is crap
if it doesn't have velocity.

Steve will do whatever work you want done. That price is for his old RP

I agree 150%. Todd's work is nothing short of precision. Comparable to a
swiss watch. He is the man and is very fair. I cannot say enough good things
about him as a person let alone his work. Let's just say I do not turn just
anyone loose in my 35k glhs and 1500 in cash. Todd did all the work and
documented it too. I wound up owing him more than than 1500 but he delivered a
perfect car to me and we are 1600 miles apart. If you want something done
perfectly and on the first attempt, he's your man. I will fly him in everytime
my cars need work.

Todd Nelson's 8v heads are the best money can buy. He does both swirl and G
heads. He can also do it with the oversize valves along with all the other
valvetrain goodies. I know all of his heads are flow benched so you have
 solid
proven results. You can get ahold of him at [EMAIL PROTECTED] It might take
him a couple days to reply, I don't think he has internet at his house yet.
He's done 2 swirl heads and one G head for me and they are AWESOME!
 Definately
a work of art and perform flawlessly.
