Re: [SIESTA-L] how to install Netcdf4 for compilation of tbtrans in siesta 4.1b2
There are many reasons for these decisions: 1. Shipping sources from different projects requires that both the licence of the parent project and the shipped project allows this. This is the reason why Atom is not shipped with SIESTA anymore. This is explicitly mentioned by reading the README.ATOM file in the Pseudo directory. Unless the licence of Atom is changed, we cannot ship it with SIESTA. 2. Shipping sources from different projects together with another project can be difficult for certain sys-admins in HPC centers because they want/require their own libraries to be used. 3. Maintenance problems of new sources (shipped with sources) are really cumbersome because it requires the developers to follow the development of each of the shipped sub-projects. When shipping a sub-project users (like you and everybody else) *require* that the shipped sources actually *works* (which makes sense :) ). But time is limited and developers of DFT software should do DFT software development, *not* generic library development/tracking. There may be other DFT software which does this differently. In SIESTA we only ship BLAS/LAPACK because their license allows it, and they are well-established libraries with extremely stable API's. 4. If people wish to ship the sources with SIESTA they should feel free to create a new branch of SIESTA and make the appropriate changes to the Makefile system. As SIESTA is open-source (GPL) you are entitled to help as much as the core developer team are. Lastly, NetCDF is still not a requirement for SIESTA. In my opinion, it greatly aids in the subsequent analysis of real-space grids, for instance, but it isn't a requirement. I hope this answers the question and future questions regarding what to ship with SIESTA. 2017-03-26 3:27 GMT+02:00 berna uyanık: > I do not know how did you understand I do not know how to install siesta. > Because I can write all steps of installing siesta without looking into > manual. I do not know how did you understand I do not know how to install siesta. Because I can write all steps of installing siesta without looking into manual. But I know siesta includes lapack and scalapack. Then why does siesta not include another essential package? Some years ago siesta included also atom. Now we should download separately these programs. Maybe you think less you consider more to your students. 2017-03-25 10:45 GMT+03:00: > hi, > i think what you want to know is..how to install siesta WITHOUT netcdf. > > s.auluck > > > Hi. Hi. I am sorry my grammar mistakes. Actually I want to try asking why have *not *siesta been coming with netcdf? Or why doesn't siesta include netcdf package? 2017-03-23 7:26 GMT+03:00 berna uyanık: > Hi.
