US warns bio-terror 'cure' websites

Websites have a week to stop selling unproven bio-terror treatments
By BBC News Online's Kevin Anderson

With anthrax spores still being discovered in Washington
Congressional offices, a worried public continues to look for ways to
protect themselves.

Hundreds of websites have sprung up selling everything from
mail sterilisers to oregano oil to prevent and treat illnesses such as
anthrax.

But now the US Government is cracking down on dozens of
websites that it claims are selling unproven products to counter
bio-terrorism threats.

The Federal Trade Commission has sent some 40 e-mails to the
operators of such websites, telling them to stop marketing such products
or face prosecution.

 'Disturbing sites'

The FTC, the Food and Drug Administration, the California
Department of Health Services and the offices of more than 30 state
attorneys-general scoured the web for sites selling products that
claimed to protect or counter biological and chemical agents.

The internet search uncovered more than 200 sites marketing
bio-terrorism related products including gas masks, protective suits,
mail sterilizers, biohazard test kits, homeopathic remedies and
dietary supplements.

The sites are claiming that dietary supplements such as
colloidal silver, zinc mineral water, thyme and oregano oil are
effective treatments for illnesses such as anthrax.

But the FTC said it was aware of no scientific proof for such
claims. And John Taylor with the Food and Drug Administration's Office
of Enforcement said that no products being marketed as dietary
supplements had proven safe and effective in the treatment of anthrax.

Together with the FTC, we've found quite a number of
disturbing sites, Mr Taylor said. Companies marketing unapproved or
otherwise misbranded products for anthrax or other diseases run a very
high risk of FDA
enforcement or regulatory action.

The FTC said that opportunistic online marketers are preying on
the fears of the public.

This marketing targets people worried about the prospect of
exposure to lethal biological or chemical weapons, said Howard Beales,
the FTC's Director of Consumer Protection.

And the US Government is working with state and local
authorities to close down sites that are using worries over
bio-terrorism to make money selling ineffective products.

Washington Attorney-General Christine Gregoire said state
attorneys-general will not stand by while website operators capitalise
on public fears by selling products that offer no protection.

 Buyer beware

Not all homeopathic or alternative medicine websites are trying
to market alternative therapies to anthrax.

The Washington Homeopathic Products website instructs people
who believe that they have been exposed to anthrax to see a licensed
healthcare provider immediately.

And the president of the National Centre for Homeopathy, Todd
Rowe, counselled people to avoid panic. Echoing the warnings of
government officials, he said the internet is full of books and
products capitalising on this fear.

But the FTC said the public should be aware of online marketers
peddling miracle treatments and cures including exotic potions and
pills, special curative diets, and strange magnetic or electrical
devices.

They stressed that the only known effective treatment for
anthrax and smallpox are approved prescription drugs and vaccines, and
they urged the public to consult their health care professional before
taking any medications.

CSnewbie question

2001-11-27 Thread Taradal
OK-I got my first set of silver rods, my three 9 volt batteries and my
alligator clips. I've made umpteen 2 cup batches using 4 different brands of
DW,(the first batch was yellow, all others were clear and it all has a
slightly bitter taste.) Now, I want to know, what do I have to do to increase
the amount I make in each batch? I'm brewing it, according to my directions,
for 1 hour,(I wipe off the rods and stir the water after the first 30
minutes,)-if I want to make double or quadruple the amount, or even a gallon,
do I need more power? How much more? Longer brewing time? I'm thinking of
getting a small fish tank to make it in-would the bubbles be a good idea?
(Sort of like stirring. . .) Sorry if these questions seem S elementary
to some of you, but I've just started :-)
Thanks!

CSViruses abound...

Hi all,

I've seen a number of copies of some e-mail virus or other coming from
various people to the silver list. The wonderful thing is the attached
virus program exceeds 4 bytes in size and is being blocked for
that reason! I also have filters set up on the list that should strip
executable attachments.

So I hope there'll be no live ones getting through to the subscribers
of the list. However, there's no guarantee except having your own
antivirus software running *AND* updated with the most recent virus
pattern files.

Stay safe, be well,

Re: CSnewbie question/oldbie question

2001-11-27 Thread Wayne Fugitt

Evening Nina,

1) What is the advantage to using many 9 volt batteries in a row, as opposed
to one?
   I use my old ( 3 X 9 ) unit from time to time. When I use it, I
series two each small 12 volt batteries with it. That is 27 + 24
volts. 51 volts is virtually the same voltage I get when I use my phone
line generator.

Seems I keep giving away my phone generator to family and friends. One
relative told me on thanksgiving day they wanted 4 of the units. They are
a pain to build and I don't want to build any more.

2) Also, is one 12 volt battery okay to use instead of a 9 volt?

I have dozens of batteries sitting around. I have used up to 75 VDC
by connecting an array of batteries.

Likely one could go up to 200 VDC with the right setup.

One should learn what batteries are available on the market. The
main advantage I see for batteries is that of remote use when no ac is
available. For example, camping, hunting, hiking, or you name it.

The automobile battery, plus a few small 12 volt batteries would work
just fine.

Solar chargers are very economical now.

Batteries drive me crazy ! I am deaf and have to have 3 AA batteries
to hear. I have a basket full of them and am constantly charging
batteries. I usually have either 3 or 6 in my pocket at any time.

Typically, I use 3 sets per day.

Seriously, I have thought of getting a solar charger and wearing it on
my head or my back.

In addition to the rechargeable ones, I keep a dozen or two alkaline AA
in my truck. Only about once every six months do I get caught without
rechargeable and have to use these.

I would advise you or anyone to select a voltage you want to use and
develop the instinct to go along with it. This way, everything you learn
and observe would be consistent.

Honestly, the phone line generator seems to be my choice when conditions
prevail to use it.

I need to build about 20 of them now. Maybe I can pick up the parts today.

   Wayne

CSBill Briggs talk

2001-11-27 Thread Mike Fuller
Hi all,

I attended a talk by Bill Briggs last night to hear what Australia's
leading authority on colloidal silver had to say on why his product is far
better than anyone else's. The initial impression was that he is not what
I'd call a good public speaker in that he could not get his ideas across
very well at a lay level. He also couldn't answer adequately any of the
questions concerning obvious inaccuracies in his literature and on the
website.

Concerning his colloidal silver, it was hard getting any real details about
the process (which is probably fair enough on a commercial level) but I did
hear that it involves a 50 volt process and the water is deionised and
degassed and its structural matrix is aligned. When asked about this last
part he said that magnets weren't involved but wouldn't elaborate further.
He did say that a magnetron, using frequencies higher than microwaves, was
used in getting the silver off the electrodes.

The most interesting thing for me was that hydrogen peroxide was involved in
the generating process and this produced silver (ions/particles?) with
oxygen bonding that became nascent oxygen in vivo. the result is that when a
white light is shone through the colloidal silver, it has a blue cast. Has
anyone on the list generated colloidal silver using any amount of hydrogen
peroxide in the water? I have a vague recollection of someone saying it
produced large flakes of silver.

Bill's main thrust was that silver requires oxygen to work in vivo, and most
commercial and home-grown CS robs the body of oxygen whereas his has the
oxygen present. Perhaps someone could comment on this?

We did get his book for free, which I read last night. Again, I was
unimpressed but others may get some value from it. Copies can be obtained
from:
Silver Colloid Australia Distributors
9/131 Bulleen Rd
North Balwyn
Victoria
Australia 3104

I don't know if they charge for the book, you may be lucky.

Regards

Mike Fuller

They are our fathers, our brothers and Sons,
And all of them carry some mighty big Guns.
They would have stayed home with their children and Wives,
Till you jerks came here and took all those Lives.
Osama, I wrote this especially for You,
For air mail delivery by B-52.
You soon will be hearing a thud and a whistle,
Old Glory is coming, attached to a Missile.
I will not be sorry to see you Go.
It's Red, White, and Blue
that is running this Show.

The list is somewhat lengthy, and I found a few old friends there. Some of
which I have met in person.

Others are people who write newsletters that I pay money to learn what they
write.

If anyone has not seen this list, they should take a look.
