Re: [Simile-Widgets] consider running Babel yourself - how??

2014-04-25 Thread Leopold
Since several days the service

http://service.simile-widgets.org/babel/

is down. Any idea if and when it would come up again. Did any of those
posting here already succeed in running it on your own server? any return
on experience to share here?

thanks

+1 for making it easy to run babel locally. Speaking for myself, I have a
script that runs my group's BibTeX file through the babel web service [1]
to generate a JSON file for Exhibit to display -- but at the moment my
script fails for reasons that may be outside my control.

I checked out https://github.com/zepheira/babel just now, but am not
enough of a Maven maven to grok the build system (reactors? lifecycle
phases?). Is there an easy way to convert a BibTeX file to an Exhibit JSON
 file from the command line?

Current issue aside, thanks for making Exhibit!

[1] FTR, the meat of my script is:
 $ curl --insecure --show-error --fail -F raw-text=@mybibfile.bib -o
 mybibfile.js '
 https://service.simile-widgets.org/babel/translator?reader=bibtexwriter=bibtex-exhibit-jsonmimetype=default
 '
which worked when I last checked a few weeks ago but now returns HTTP 400.

[Simile-Widgets] Is service.simile-widgets.org/babel going to be restored soon?

2014-04-25 Thread Dario Izzo
Since 5 days or so the babel service has stopped. The url
http://service.simile-widgets.org/babel/ returns Service Temporarily
Unavailable.

Is the service going to be restored? If not, are there alternatives? Our
web page http://www.esa.int/gsp/ACT/publications/act_papers.html makes use
of exhibit 2.2.0 to make a publication list from bibtex, and is currently
broken :(

Sorry, I was unaware of the issue. I've asked our sysadmin to look into
things.

It looks like painter is down; I've contacted sysadmins to address the
problem.

Note that Exhibit v3 does its own painting without relying on a service,
so if you switch over (which is very straightforward) you won't be
impacted by future failures in painter.

[Simile-Widgets] Problem with facet resize widget

2014-04-25 Thread David White
While updating an exhibit from 2.2 to 3.1.0rc I noticed that any attempt to
resize a list facet (clicking on down arrow icon) would raise a not sign
(circle with bar), start the resizing process, but doesn't allow the resize
to end. In effect the mouse is not released once the button is lifted, or
even if clicked off the facet. I can only get the pointer released' by
reloading the page.

I noticed the same behavior on the sample:
http://simile-widgets.org/exhibit3/examples/presidents/presidents.html

I tested it using these browsers: Firefox 28.0; IE 11.0.9 and Chrome 34,
although on chrome it usually occurs on the second attempt to resize.

Anyone else have this experience? I did not find any documentation on how
to disable resizing, if that is possible.

Thank you.

Re: [Simile-Widgets] Is service.simile-widgets.org/babel going to be restored soon?

2014-04-25 Thread David Karger

Service on babel has been restored, and your site seems to be working.

If you want to protect yourself from such failures in the future, you
can convert your bibtex file to one that exhibit understands natively
(json, csv, google spreadsheet, html table) and serve that from your own
site.

Given that you have 484 publications, you might want to switch to
exhibit 3, which has much better scalability in loading and filtering data.
