Slide based project released.

2005-02-16 Thread Thomas Bellembois
Hello,
We have just released a WebDAV server based on Slide.
A short history about our project :
We are working on a project of deployment of a Web portal in French
universities. This project called ESUP-PORTAIL is based on the portal
uPortal (www.uportal.org).
You can find a documentation about ESUP-PORTAIL at the following URL :
http://www.esup-portail.org/version_gb/index_gb.html
We wanted to develop a CMS (called InJac) integrated into ESUP-PORTAIL
and in this way we had to choose a WebDAV server.
We have choosen Slide as a base for our WebDAV server and we have
developed many features and tools to obtain a server meeting our
requirements.
Our package is composed of :

   * a Jarkarta Slide V2.1 server
   * an uPortal group store - Slide store developed to get groups
(roles) from a Web service attached to our portal.
   * three authentication filters - to protect our WebDAV server -
available authentication methods are LDAP, CAS, or TRUSTED
   * one authentication router in charge of selecting one of the
authentication filters
   * one redirection filter - processes url like /slide/~user - not
very effective at the moment, but will be replaced soon
   * a tool to create user homedirs
   * a tool to create the Injac root directory - an InJac feature
   * a storage channel - to access, create, delete, move... resources
on the WebDAV server and also on a CIFS server and soon on an NFS
server. This channel also contains InJac (CMS) features to manage
document spaces, manage permissions and delegate spaces management.

You can find further information at the following link :
http://www.esup-portail.org/consortium/espace/CMS_3F/roadmapInjac.html
Some people could be interested in our work and we are very interested
in sharing experiences about Slide-based projects.
If you want further information, you can contact us using our mailing
list (or you can email me) :
http://listes.esup-portail.org/wws/info/injac-users

Thanks.
Thomas.

I have tested WebDrive and it really works. But I need to do it only
with the WebDAV Mini-Redirector present in XP.
Without authentication I try to map http://myserverIP/slide but I
receive always the same Windows error:

  Colud not map network drive:
  The directory name is invalid

And in the slide log:

http-80-Processor25, 16-Feb-2005 17:04:04, unauthenticated, PROPFIND,207
"Multi-Status", 20 ms, /

Thanks,

Xavi

Yes, I have never been able to get this to work properly, but if it did
it would be great.

It's not the same as the WebFolders client. It creates a real drive
mapping, just as Net/WebDrive do.
I couldn't get authentication to work, but I think it's worth to try
to find out what Slide needs to do to interoperate better with the
mini-redirector.

As discussed in another thread, I just tested CVS HEAD with the WebDAV
Mini-Redirector (MRXDAV.SYS) and it seems to work, at least when Slide
is not setup to authenticate:

   net use * http://myhost/slide
It's not the same as the WebFolders client. It creates a real drive
mapping, just as Net/WebDrive do.
I couldn't get authentication to work, but I think it's worth to try to

To my knowledge, no, but there is a program called "netdrive" that
may do what you want. It's a novell client that talks to the novell
webdav server. I've been told it works with Slide too. I don't have
the right configuration to test it myself at the moment. It seems to
use NTLM auth by default or basic auth if you set a config parameter.

Hello,
Can I map Slide shares with windows XP?.
I've read the steps in Slide home page (Connecting with XP)
but it only creates web Folders and I need a real mapped drive.
I'm using Slide+Tomcat in a Linux Red Hat and the windows
machine has the WebDAV Mini-Redirector (MRXDAV.SYS) version 5.1.2600.218
Thanks.
