[SLUG] DVDs on linux

2003-01-08 Thread Ian Hans Su
Hi all,

I've recently bought a DVD-ROM for my computer, and so far it works fine
(don't have a DVD to test it against yet, though :) But I was just
wondering, should I only buy DVDs from australian shops? I believe there
is something called a region limitation. Does this apply to DVD-ROMs
using software decoders? Is DeCSS something different entirely? How do I
find out/change the region of my player in Linux?

Thanks,
Ian.

A google search should get you a lot of hits on this topic.
You probably should have done a little research before buying,
as some dvd players are more difficult to make region free than
others. It typically involves a firmware upgrade or downgrade.
