My Linux = 2.6.9-rc3-bk1. As a matter of fact I have all sorts of Linux versions that I run chkrootkit with no problems. My chkrootkit = 0.45 My ToolBoxes are in CDs in a variety of VERSIONS including 'chkrootkit' and are offlined when not used. I also maintained copies in CDs of my production OS with cryptographic checksums which is taken just before it is put online. With my firewalls and other security critical servers, I require recompiling kernels by removing all UNUSED and REDUNDANT modules as part of the audit process so, when I got a problem such as the one illustrated above, I ONLY need to examine a few modules instead of TONS of them. As well I only need to generate fewer cryptographic checksums albeit faster because I am dealing with a lot fewer files as my security benchmarks than when I have the stock kernels. In my view, 'chkrootkit' is mainly useful when you have checksumed a 'virgin' production OS. [SLUG] Mouse speed changes in command line
Hi, I gather that I can change the mouse speed using the command line (I want to change it to less that x 1.0, which is the lowest the GUI- Mandrake 10.0 - will let me). I have three questions: 1. I gather that I can type 'xset m 1/8/ 1/8' at the command line (for speed and acceleration) - is this correct? 2. Using the command line, how can I find out what the current settings are? 3. After changing them, would selecting default (in the GUI) reset it to the original settings (pre-command line changes) or make no difference? Thanks for any assistance. [SLUG] Finding .so's path from inside the .so at runtime?
Hello, Is there a standard way for a .so file to find where it was loaded from? Background: I ported an ISAPI module from windows to Linux (to connect to Zeus web server). The original code on Windows relays on the .DLL's ability to find its path on the disk in order to lookup a configuration file relative to it. On Linux I just used an anvironment variable but later I noticed that the Java Plugin for Mozilla relays on being symbolically-linked (rather than copied) in order to run, and I suspect that maybe it needs this in order to find the rest of the files at runtime (e.g. the runtime class library, the zoneinfo files etc). I'd like to use the same trick myself. Currently I think of immitating the ld.so algorithm for finding files but that could get unreliable if the algorithm changes one day, and involves duplicating of the work already done by the loader itself. I'd rather try to get the real info from the dynamic loader. Any ideas? Thanks, --Amos (BTW - the ISAPI module is Caucho's Resin and is under GPL, the port is expected to be included in the next release of Resin (3.0.12), and I'll be happy to provide the patch to anyone who asks). -- SLUG - Sydney Linux User's Group Mailing List - http://slug.org.au/ Subscription info and FAQs: http://slug.org.au/faq/mailinglists.html

Whats really impressive (and useful for a new sydneysider like myself) is the 'plan your trip' section which joins bus and trains together to create a journey - i.e. you can enter a source and a destination and it works out the best way to get there, using a combo of buses and trains. Hi, Thanks. Looks like just what I was looking for. I'll probably iterate through the output and look for my .so's name in the dlpi_name base. It would probably be more accurate to look for a segment which contains the current function's address, but that'll require more investigation of the returned data. [SLUG] Cron that can execute in different time zone
Hello, I'd like to execute a program on a weekly basis (e.g. once a week, let's say at 3PM every Tuesday) but I want the timing to occur according to a completely different time zone (e.g. let's say the timezone in New York). I found something which might allow me to do this but lost its name and can't dig it again. The idea is that I want the program to execute every Tuesday at 3PM according to the New York timezone, without having to take into account the differences from my system's timezone (which is different), daylight saving times changes etc. Do you know such a program? [SLUG] java - jooconverter issues
Hi all, this is for the java programmers. I've set up a basic java program based on frontline's Test converter (http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?p=64417highlight=documentfor mat#64417) to perform document format conversions using jooconverter. Here's my current code: import net.sf.joott.uno.*; import java.io.*; public class converter { public static void main(String[] a) throws Exception { UnoConnection conn = new UnoConnection(socket,host=192.168.0.5,port=8100,tcpNoDelay=1); conn.connect(); File source = new File(test.ppt); File dest = new File(test.swf); DocumentConverter conv = new DocumentConverter(conn); conv.convert(source, dest, DocumentFormat.FLASH_IMPRESS); } } It compiles fine. I used his guidelines suggested here (http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=41675) for compiling and running it. This app will run in a Linux server, and the listener in a Windows box running OpenOffice in listening mode using this command: .\soffice -invisible -accept=socket,host=0,port=8100;urp;StarOffice.NamingService But when I ran it, the conversion failed, and this is the error message I got: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/code$ java -cp jooconverter.jar:/home/julio/code:jurt.jar:juh.jar:ridl.jar:sandbox.jar:unoil.j ar converter Feb 24, 2005 3:46:13 PM net.sf.joott.uno.UnoConnection connect INFO: connecting using socket,host=192.168.0.5,port=8100,tcpNoDelay=1...
