Hi Amos,

I had changed to Iceape and it worked OK, so I haven't been using the
site with Iceweasel. I just tried it now and it works! Must be
something on their end.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

What do see in the Error Console (Tools->Error Console, clear it with

My personal favourite photo collection program is Digikam.

Vote for http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=146288 (ace detection /
recognition for digikam). and hope it'll get implemented one day :)
With it being open-source, I'd bet that such a plugin will be ported to
f-spot as well when it's out.

It won't solve the location tag, though. For this you can probably
cross-reference GPS read-out with the EXIF time on the image (another good
reason to just stick the date on the camera to GMT all the time), if you
don't have a GPS inside your camera, of course. Search for "geo-tagging" if
you want to know more.

Cheers.

Does seem that way. If they'd just said "untested on other platforms"
it would have been much clearer.

The interface is pretty awful, but the underlying data is right out in
the open, so I'm sure we'll be able to build our own interfaces to it in
time.

[SLUG] ABC Playback

2008-03-26 Thread Rodger Dean
A while the was a post to the mailing list regarding ABC playback being
unable to function with Linux and it is also noted on their website that
this is the case as well.

http://www.abc.net.au/playback/

Being the adventurous type, I decided to register for the beta trials.
Since the player only required flash, I didn't see why it wouldn't work.
I just received my confirmation that I was accepted into the beta
program.

So I gave it a go and I am able to use all the features of ABC playback.

So either they have resolved all the issues with the player or there was
no real problem to start with and they were just being cautious.

Regards

Rodger Dean

Seconded. Sonia has been involved in SLUG for as long as I can remember. I
think she'd make a good addition to the committee.

100% seconded. Anna has been the one keeping our venue available and usable
every month. She deserves a massive pat on the back... and a committee post.

I'm happy to second that. Sonia has been long time SLUG attendee

If you've got the disk (currently 871M), the easiest way is probably
CPAN::Mini. This lets you download all of CPAN to your disk, but only the
very latest versions of each module. It gives you not just documentation
on every module, but the modules themselves, so you can search and install
any module you want while offline (and fast!). I find it invaluable.

Cheers,
Gavin

[SLUG] CPAN modules documentation

2008-03-26 Thread Sonia Hamilton
I'm without an internet connection at the moment (oh the pain).

I'm doing a fair bit of Perl stuff at the moment; I've downloaded the
tgz of all the Perl documentation for easy browsing.

Anyone know if there's a similar tgz of documentation for all the CPAN
modules for easy browsing locally? I know about wget; I'm thinking maybe
there's an easier way...

[SLUG] committee membership

2008-03-26 Thread Sonia Hamilton
I would like to propose myself as a member of the SLUG committee.

My involvement with Linux started with [EMAIL PROTECTED], a community group
whose
aim was to provide low cost internet access for individuals and
community groups. Since then I have worked professionally with Linux as
a Technical Instructor and System Administrator, and been a member of
the SLUG email list.

Thank you,

Sonia Hamilton.
