[SLUG] Advice on upgrading.
I have a laptop,a Fujistu S Series Lifebook running Hardy Heron. I've been told that it would run faster if I added to the memory and/or changed the hard disc. I'm happy to do so, but I'm seeking advice to avoid mistakes, or, since it's my case, large mistakes. I ran lshw and append the result. Can anyone advise on the best way to make my laptop go faster, please? Regards, Bill Bennett. q Description: Binary data -- SLUG - Sydney Linux User's Group Mailing List - http://slug.org.au/ Subscription info and FAQs: http://slug.org.au/faq/mailinglists.html

what's slow about it? the specs look pretty good as far as a general use machine goes. wbenn...@turing.une.edu.au wrote: I have a laptop,a Fujistu S Series Lifebook running Hardy Heron. adding memory usually helps and the only downside is the cost. Depends what you are doing, I guess. Photo rendering definitely likes lots of memory, but reading mail probably doesn't. wbenn...@turing.une.edu.au wrote: I have a laptop,a Fujistu S Series Lifebook running Hardy Heron. 2009/1/2 david da...@kenpro.com.au: adding memory usually helps and the only downside is the cost. Depends what you are doing, I guess. Photo rendering definitely likes lots of memory, but reading mail probably doesn't. More on the cost issue: The lshw output shows that both of the memory slots are taken so any memory upgrade will have to take that into account. Even so, upgrading the memory usually has the most noticable effect. Especially before reaching the 2GB mark. cheers, Owen. -- SLUG - Sydney Linux User's Group Mailing List - http://slug.org.au/ Subscription info and FAQs: http://slug.org.au/faq/mailinglists.html
