Linuxworld is a trade show and therefore is never going to be
anywhere near as cool as Linux.conf.au which is organised by,
run by and attended by Linux geeks.

Maybe you should save your money for LCA in Sydney next year.

I was a SLUG member when I was in Sydney and it's a fantastic group of
people. It is and probably always will be my Linux home.

I'm heading down there for this.

I do work in the industry so it's quite worthwhile for networking,
learning at the tutorials and labs and of course catching up with
SLUGers.

I saw him at linux.conf.au 2004 and he was great. I'm interested in
seeing him talk to a business audience rather than the converted.

Or maybe all Slug members could relocate to the Gold Coast so that I
could be apart of your fine group.

Good idea but what about Brissie?!

Do you think a Linux user (and only Linux! I learnt on Linux, Windows is

the expo to warrant the money??

Are you involved in the Gold Coast LUG (http://www.goldcoastlinux.com)?

I think Linuxworld will be very interesting, and you'll meet some cool
people, especially if you could possible stay till friday as SLUG is on that
friday. But seriously, you may as well save up your brownie points and come
to linux.conf.au in Sydney in January, as it'll be much closer to the crowd
you want to meet. Linuxworld is more a business and Government do than a
geek gig. Perhaps try to send your boss down so they understand the business
value of Linux :)

Cheers,

Hmm, I can only go to one or the other, so I decided on good advise,
that I will wait till linux.conf.au .

Hopefully Ill be able to attend a slug meeting as well.

Thanks for the reply's

PS. while I think of it, I better let everyone know that tuxta is not
a take off of Tux the penguin or anything Linux related, it is what I
was called at school, kinda short for my surname Tucker. Just thought I
should let everyone know, Ive had a couple of comments lately about me
thinking I am some sort of linux guru, so just to set the record straight.

Hi all,

feel more a part of SLUG since being on the mailing list. It would be

The Pros

Get to meet SLUGers
see some cool talks
get to visit the town I grew up in (yes I am an ex Sydney boy)
get to see a grown man dressed up as Tux!!! heh

Cons

Air flight = about $450
two days off work unpaid (don't ask, there is just no chance of a sickie
or annual leave)
Umm did I mention flights and no pay? I did? well about $800 is a
pretty good argument
