I have good experiences with TaskJuggler http://www.taskjuggler.org/. It 
is a paradigm shift in project management software that would appeal to 
Developers who like text editing and don't like using the mouse.

Opinions  ok
This is just an estimate of functionality by a look at the screenshots of the 
application. I'd say it has 10% of the functionality of MS Project.

If you want open source with functionality close to MS Project then this 
http://www.openworkbench.org/ looks good.
