It may be that you have not done an update after updating the repository list. synaptic will prompt you if you do this. sudo apt-get update -- SLUG - Sydney Linux User's Group Mailing List - http://slug.org.au/ Subscription info and FAQs: http://slug.org.au/faq/mailinglists.html
[SLUG] Karmic: synaptic v apt-get
I want to install kdenlive. The repository version is deprecated and the latest is available from ppa.launchpad.net I've added the launchpad repo using these instructions: http://www.kdenlive.org/user-manual/downloading-and-installing-kdenlive/pre-compiled-packages/ubuntu-packages The new version does not show up in , but oddly it shows up in the GUI for Synaptic. Even if I manually add the launchpad repo to sources-list: deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/sunab/ppa/ubuntu karmic main apt-cache still shows the OLD version from the Ubuntu repos. Normally I would always use apt-get. It's quicker than synaptic and I'm used to it. More particularly, I'm surprised that Synaptic doesn't seem to use sources-list for consistency. How do I get apt-get to recognise the launchpad version? thanks David -- SLUG - Sydney Linux User's Group Mailing List - http://slug.org.au/ Subscription info and FAQs: http://slug.org.au/faq/mailinglists.html
