Re: [SLUG] custom kernel throws dpkg error
Dean Hamstead wrote: why not use KVM or virtualbox? Dean It needs to work immediately, using the existing VMWare virtual machine. It *is* working in VMWare, so going through the process of converting to virtualbox is a project for when I get around to it (yes.. it's on my TODO list). I don't know how hard it is, but I know it needs to be at least thought about. Of course, that begs the question [1] what do I do after I install virtualbox, no longer need VMWare, but still have the custom kernel? Can I just remove it using dpkg without screwing my system? thanks David. [1] ... for the pedants.. I know that's incorrect usage of "begs the question" but it sounds good. david wrote: After installing VMWare-Server following this howto: http://www.howtoforge.com/how-to-install-vmware-server-1.0.x-on-an-ubuntu-9.10-desktop-p2 I now get this every time I do *any* apt-get install: Failed to process /etc/kernel/postinst.d at /var/lib/dpkg/info/linux-image-2.6.31.6-custom.postinst line 1186. dpkg: error processing linux-image-2.6.31.6-custom (--configure): subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2 ldconfig deferred processing now taking place Errors were encountered while processing: linux-image-2.6.31.6-custom E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) Everything appears to work OK.
