Re: [SLUG] running Win apps on Linux: wine ?

Hi Voytek

There was a near identical thread on this subject last week.

Check the archives for 'Experience with emulators'.

FWIW my preference is win4lin. However YKMV.

how good is it, can it run all? most? win apps ?

is it suitable for 'an average office PC user' who needs to run things like
Quicken or MYOB ?

how does one run windoze apps on Linux, wine ?

it's pretty decent depending on the support level.

how good is it, can it run all? most? win apps ?
 like MYOB or Quicken ?

I haven't tried but you could have a look at the rating of
how well the app runs under wine at winehq.

does it need fast(er) hardware ?
how much RAM or CPU is suggested ?

Depending on how long you want to run the app.
If it's all day and depending on how well the windows app was developed
then I guess you might need to exit out of the program every 8 hours or
when your swap is getting too full :)

is it suitable for 'an average office PC user' who needs to run things like
 Quicken or MYOB ?

you could probably create a short cut on the desktop for the user. I
would test the app on my own computer for a month before I would
consider rolling it out to my clients. Therefore you could support any
problems you experience, rather than the clients say this new system you
gave me is shit you don't know how to even support it.
