What is the reason why it is not applicable in smartos? The main purpose here is to migrate legacy hardware. The MAC of a VNIC can only be set during creation. So, you first need to remove it and then re-add it with the "mac" property set to you desired value. If you don't set the "mac" property it will be auto-generated for you.
