I have a client with the same problem, we're getting the laptop replace after
none of the troubleshooting steps worked.

[sussex_mug] Affordable projector to connect to an MBook Air

2011-11-25 Thread Nicholas Holt
Has anyone any experience of the new generation of small fairly inexpensive
projectors with an LED light source?
Apple are selling one for about £250 and has some reasonable reviews. Maplin

I would initially be looking to project Keynote presentations to small (10-20

[sussex_mug] Text to speech with proper English voices

2011-11-25 Thread nick_public1
I had a bit of a discovery the other day which may be of interest to the less
technically minded and gregarious of the group.
I was always dissatisfied with the American voices and fiddling around in Sys
Prefs I discovered if one clicks on the voices there is a Customise option
which brings up a whole range of other voice options for downloading.
I now have Serena resident in my MBA (running Lion) and her voice is good
(compared to what was on offer before0. There are also Scottish and Irish
options as well as French etc.
hope that helps someone.

Thanks John, that's very helpful not least because I had forgotten to look on

research but the portability, LED lights (which last 20K hours) and being
relatively cheap has suddenly opened up new possibilities of sharing ideas.

Yes, it’s certainly brighter than the micro-projectors. I was attracted as it
sports an HDMI socket so is more versatile than some. Have used it with a
MacBook, iPad, and iPhone.

I mean to try it with an Apple TV to see if I can do way with cable connections
with iPad/iPhone. If that works it means you get away from being close to the
projector.

It’s just a thought but someone I know who does lots of talks to small groups
takes a 42 inch TV and uses that instead of a projector. People seem to like
this solution and it’s relatively cheap. Uses the TV as a monitor for a Mac
Mini when not on the road. Crazy but it works.

Can you explain how a Dymo. Label writer works? It is not clear from their web
page. Do they connect to a computer? If not, how do you write out what you
want on a label? Is it the same address on the label each time? As I write
this I realise that using the label app on the computer means I can print all
the labels for, say, Xmas cards, at one go. Which makes me wonder what is the
point of the Dymo.

I rang Dymo about my labelwriter 320 not working and they sent me an email

[sussex_mug] Upgrade to iPhoto 11

2011-11-25 Thread ARMS
Hi, I am still on iPhoto 9 v 8.1.2 but now that I am on OSX 10.7.2 and
iCloud my MobileMe gallery will not sync, I just get an invalid userid
message.
So, I am assuming that I need to upgrade to iPhoto 11 but the reviews
are awful. People seem to be having all sorts of problems.
Does anyone have any advice as I want to publish some photos on the
web so several friends can view them and its just so easy from within
iPhoto rather than using a different program.

Andy

You could open a free Flickr account, as iPhoto 11 gives you the option to
share to Flickr.

Re. iPhoto 11 itself, I use it a lot, and I haven't had any problems with it.

Best wishes

I've never had a single problem with iPhoto 9. If you make a backup of your
iPhoto library before you upgrade then you can always revert.

Re: [sussex_mug] dymo label writer

2011-11-25 Thread Diana
They connect to your computer via a USB plug and you can download
appropriate software from Dymo web site if you do not have a CD with the
product. I use my Dymo a lot as my printer does not like printing
envelopes so I can print off individual labels as and when I need.
Software works with my Mac Address Book so I do not have to type addresses
out. I use mine all the time. For large numbers of labels at Christmas I
do use Address Book / Print / Labels facility but my Dymo would recognise
my AB Group and print all the labels. Hope this helps.

Lion 10.7.2), nothing changed on my Mac at all. But just to check I fired up
my laptop (Snow Leapord) and that also refused to download from this account

I have other POP mac.com email accounts (not aliases) which continue to work
without problem using the same Entourage app and the same Mac!

Anyone else having similar problems or any suggestions?

For the troublesome mac.com account I can receive my emails using IMAP, but
I prefer to use POP for all my email accounts as some accounts are POP only.

Apologies for those of your that do not know what POP means.

Re: [sussex_mug] Mac.com email address

2011-11-25 Thread Sam - MacAmbulance
Hi Paul

iCloud is IMAP only, no POP. You could set it up as an IMAP account with a mail
rule to move all incoming mail from that IMAP account to the inbox on your
computer, then just ignore the IMAP inbox.
