[sniffer] How Many get through

2006-08-25 Thread Gary Stark

I have a question I've been wanting to ask for
awhile:

How many spams do most people get leaked into their mailbox?
ie they pass message sniffer?

When I first started over a year ago, very few spam made it
into my mailbox.

But the past 6 months I get 60-80 spam emails / day into my
personal box. Of course I'll see the same messages in my other mail boxes also,
so it relates to a lot of deleting?

Could I have something set up incorrectly? Or thresholds set
to low that they are getting through?

Thanks for any info!

Sincerely,
Gary Stark

Hello Gary,

I've checked your license id (based on your domain) and it is not
expired - updates seem to be working normally.

Is your update script working correctly?

Yes, My script is working. I have it set to get updates twice a day, at 0600
and 1800.

I also have a log upload script for once a day, it looks like it works
because I see they get cycled, but I don't have any confirmation or logging
on the script, as I am using the generic script from sortmonster.

I guess I may not have the weights set high enough to filter the spam? I am
using sniffer as my primary spam catch. On my weighting, if it passes
sniffer I let it go through, as I add points.

BTW, I'm not an I.T. person, just running my own domains on a dedicated
server. And about to give it up with all the problems, as my server actually
got hacked a few months ago, and I was running BlackIce Server Defender!.
The hosting company thinks they cracked the password as they use remote
desktop so I can make changes, and my passwork is 14characters... Ag -
Needless to say re-installing MSSQL and 8 domains remotely wasn't a fun
process.

Thanks for any help!
If it would help, I could attach my conf file (without auth code of
course...)
