[RCSE] Re: California
Will somebody please tell this guy the best place to fly in California before we all go crazy!! Ray Juschkus Just bring a plane and we will park you at some spot off the coast/mountian/rock/building. There is 1200 miles of California coast line and another 600 miles or so of the Sierra Range plus a zillion mystery spots that everyone claimed to be the best place. Pick one. Re: [RCSE] What is the best place to fly in California
Although this is hardly the best place to fly, the picture is pretty neat. The valet parking attendants ignore my '67 Dodge. http://members.home.net/proba2/HaySta/HaySta.htm Don't be deceive by the photo, the green stuff is only there for two weeks in April, the rest of the year it is yellow(gold). [RCSE] Zero lift angle/Guideline
The zero lift angle can be approximated by simply using the value of the foil's camber. Meaning 2% camber equals a zero lift angle of -2 degrees. Re: Re: [RCSE] Help on spider foam conclusions:
I had the same problem when I was cutting the airfoils being used for Dr. Michael Selig's wind tunnel test. The solution I came up with was to cut in two half size (short wing) sections and join them together. My theory on the problem was that the cutting wire did not have an accurate circular cross-section and therefore would tend to twist and wander around on long cuts. If that is the case, then I would think that a larger diameter under more tension would do better. Of course having very accurate round wire would help too (if that is the problem). Tom Copp opened this can of worms (it's not my fault!). Here's my personal list of San Francisco area slopes PLUS the 5 Southern Calif. entries from Tom's list. [RCSE] SF Bay, California
The Best Flying Site? My favorite spot is Windy Hill with an east wind. Windy Hill is on the San Francisco Bay peninsula just above Palo Alto and Stanford University. It features a nice smooth hill face 2000' tall with smooth air and loads of lift. The view is absolutely spactacular, all the way from Downtown San Francisco and the Bay Bridge on the left, to the Oakland Hills and Mt. Diablo, to all of the South Bay and San Jose to the right. Behind is the Pacific Ocean and the Redwood Forests. Remember to keep your eye on your plane !!!
