Re: [RCSE] HS-55 vs. JR241
At 07:37 PM 6/26/00 -0400, Ben Diss wrote: Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. One thing came up often in the replies. Most people question the use of such a small servo in such a big plane. The Escape has a very small outer aileron. The dimensions are 9.5" x 1.25". According to servo calc, if I fly the plane at 100mph I only need 6 oz/in. torque for full deflection. So, I think that the 16 oz/in of the HS-55 or 17 oz/in of the JR241 should be enough power. Any comment on the HS-55 vs. JR241? A good question to ask then is, what is the most precise micro servo? JR has a good reputation. Future escape owners want to know. Steve Meyer http://users.megapathdsl.net/~stmeyer/stmeyer/ [EMAIL PROTECTED] S.O.A.R. Re: [RCSE] California Contests, Fun-Flies, etc. in August?
Silas-- Look for the SmAC 2000 (the biggest damn combat event ever) on Sunday, August 13th at Temple Hill in LoCal. Take a look at http://home.earthlink.net/~dborer/ for some pictures of last year's event and some details on this year's event. More details will be posted at http://home.earthlink.net/~windrider007/ as they are finalized. We expect to have all of the best combat fliers in attendance (over 70 last year) and a huge raffle. We look forward to seeing you there. Dan - Original Message - From: Silas Collier [EMAIL PROTECTED] What contests and fun-flies are scheduled in Mid-August? [RCSE] Airfoil Accuracy/Fantasy...
The original author of this string had an excellent point. From the recommendation of the original presentation by Selig and Donovan at the appropriate MARCS symposium. I have used the SD7084 for years with excellent results. Besides being an excellent airfoil second to very very few it is "do-able". Flat bottom, easily out thermals most, races with the RG15, good stall characteristics and many other good qualities That alone("do-able") recommends it as an excellent starting point. After reading the article though you may stay there for the 2m and up classes. Rick RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Could the batteries be charged for 1/5 the time, or 3 hours? I don't want to risk overcharging the Rx batts. Check out http://www.teleport.com/~sirius/ for the Sirius Charge 100. I use it on 50mah indoor packs and it works great. Very good chargers. I've got a different opinion. If you see yourself going toward smaller planes and smaller batteries then yes, you should try the Sirius Charge 100. BUT, if you see yourself spending more time with 150 or larger packs (on other ships of course), you would be better off with the Sirius Charge Pro. It will charge 150 mAh packs fine, and you can always look at the 100 charger when you move to the little packs. Not sure if the SC100 will do 3 cell packs or not. - David [EMAIL PROTECTED] RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Send "subscribe" and "unsubscribe" requests to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[RCSE] Idaho....wow!
Just drove back from Weiser (Idaho) to Ontario, then across to Burns and down 395. Are there any guys on RCSE who live near Weiser/Ontario/Payette? Wow, are there some great ridges up there! In fact, all over the place are bare steep ridges, hogback DS ridges, and fabulous thermal potential (black volcanic rock). In SE Oregon, for the first time I've seen, Abert Rim (one of the most spectacular cliffs in the western hemisphere) had uphill wind. And I didn't have any planes with me...:-( David Berkeley CA USA RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Send "subscribe" and "unsubscribe" requests to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The aircraft are similar to U.S. open class thermal duration gliders, but don't have any spot landing devices, and usually are quite a bit stronger to withstand the somewhat extreme launch. The launch height is 500-700 feet depending on wind conditions, and this is reached in about 5-6 seconds, on a 150 meter line pulled by two persons. The task is a 10 minute flight window with a spot landing, the plane must not be launched before the 10:00 begins, and flight time starts upon release from the tow line. Landing must occur before the 10:00 is over. The goal is to get the most flight time, and a 100 point landing. 9:50 times or better are required on a consistent basis to get into the final flyoff rounds where the flights are then 15 minutes long. All rounds are flown man-on-man, with 10-15 pilots per heat. The challenge is typically in the morning and evening, when 10 minute thermals are a little harder to find. The flyoff rounds also occur late in the day, into evening. Try making a 15:00 flight at 6 or 7pm sometime! Our US TEAM PILOTS are tan, rested, and ready to kick some a__, and take some names. [RCSE] Which higher-end computer TX?
OK, finding myself in need of some freelance mixing which the RD6000 is not up to, plus the four-model memory is a limitation. Which higher-end computer TX to use? Futaba 8U series looks promising, but that would require RX replacements (Futaba doesn't offer selectable shift, I think). Not a deal breaker, but it's an inconvenience. Styli are nice, but that antenna ball-thing and lack of digital trims are a concern (OTOH, I've read great things about its versatility). JR's 8103 would allow me to keep my current RXs. Are all of these module-based? Has any publication done a side-by-side comparison of radios in this range? It seems that they are all pretty much similar in terms of features, but ease of use is a primary criteria. A recent review of the 8U gave it high marks in this area. I'm flying primarily HLG now, but will get into bigger things, hopefully soon, so I would like to be prepared and I'm not wild about owning multiple radios.
