Re: [RCSE] stuck on mandrel
I use 1 layer of waxed paper followed by 1 layer of Glad Wrap (or equivalent both out of the kitchen cupboard), wrapped around a piece the o.d. of the ballast but longer, then roll the wetted fiberglass on. The waxed paper will not stick to the mandrel and the Glad Wrap will not stick to the epoxy and will pull out easily. You should be able to pull out the mandrel then pull out the release film. You can use steel rods if you want something more consistent than a dowel. Jimmy Prouty wrote: Hi Tony, Did you spiral wrap the mylar over the mandrel? I've found that I can grab the mylar with a pair of duck bill pliers and gently wrap the mylar around them to pull it out of the tube. It sticks once in a while but I can usually reach in and pull the stuck piece out with hemostats. Happy flying, Jimmy www.jtmodels.com RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. [RCSE] Hi-Start Question
Hi All, My son and I like to fly sailplanes whenever we can and I'd like to purchase a high start so I don't have to drag out the winch when we want to go out for a few quick flights. What's a good high start that will work with smaller planes and also get my Mantis in the air? I don't need spectacular launches with the Mantis, just want to get high enough to look for a couple of thermals. More concerned about getting my boy's planes (he's 12) up without exploding them so he can learn how to launch. Really like to get one that will last a while (unlike the old up starts that would fall apart after one season.) Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Re: [RCSE] stuck on mandrel
Well, the last shreds of the mylar came out today, thanks to the suggestion on Warren Man-son Hing's site that I referenced in a post here yesterday. I received a dozen (actual count) suggestions as to how to do it so as to avoid a repeat of this problem. You guys are great -- I promise that whatever boo-boos I commit henceforth, that won't be one of them. RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. [RCSE] Re: Soaring V1 #8591
I think you will be well served with a Pinnacle Standard hi-start: http://www.nesail.com/detail.php?productID=875 or one of the Hosemonster Hi-starts from www.aerofoam.com You don't say what your son has so I can't judge the size or strength. Assuming it is some kind of a 2 Meter, I would recommend the Pinnacle Standard which will also launch your Mantis, or the Aerofoam 2M competition.
