[RCSE] F3J Worlds Started this morning

2008-06-30 Thread GordySoar
Well I got a call at about 1am saying they were getting ready to start, the
weather was warm with light winds. Should be a good start to the
event...hopefully no drama :).

[RCSE] Stylus Programming Help

2008-06-30 Thread Pat McCleave
Hi Guys,

I have a friend who is not on RCSE that is having trouble programming his
Stylus to work with an Electron II F5J plane. Since I am a JR user I am of no
help to him so knowing there are a lot of guys out here with programming saavy
I thought I would seek help here for him. Okay, the Electron II is a
Rudder/Elevator and Flap plane. The flaps are run by two separated servos.
His main question is how to program the radio so he can have the motor on the
throttle and the flaps on one of the sliders or vice versa. I suggested he run
the motor on the slider or possibly a switch and then have the flaps operate
from the throttle stick. I am open as is he to any and all suggestions as to
the best way to program the Stylus to do accomplish this. He did mention he
has a glider card installed but was not sure if it was activated if that makes
any difference in how to do the program set up. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks,

Pat McCleave

[RCSE] Contest Announcement

2008-06-30 Thread soarx4
11 th Annual Fred Fredrickson Memorial Thermal Challenge
July 12 and 13, 2007
Ohio Valley Soaring Series for 2008.
We intend to make this a FLYING event, not a landing contest, hence the
following format:
On each day, the contest will be:
1. Four or more rounds of Thermal Duration, with our usual extended flight
tasks. The number of rounds will be dependant on the size of the flight group
and other factors.
2. Seeded Man-On-Man with normalized scoring within the group.
3. Flight groups will be launched under the control of a Launch Master.
4. Winch positions will be assigned for each flight group.
5. FAI (5 points per meter) landing tape bonus (added AFTER the
normalization like the Nats).
Please note the following departures from the AMA Rulebook:
1. No skags/skegs/meathooks or ANY type landing arrestors allowed on the
aircraft (there may be a hacksaw available at the field for skegs molded into
the nosecone). If you MUST fly with a skeg or built-in arrestor, your landing
score will be scored at 50% of the point value for being high maintenance.
2. The timer MAY countdown the last 10 seconds of the flight (you do
anyway, this makes it official).
3. Contestants are allowed ANY NUMBER of models for the contest and may
freely choose for each round.
4. No ‘real-time’ telemetry or thermal sniffers will be allowed.
Entry fee will be $25.00 per contestant for one day, or $35.00 per contestant
for both days. Your entry fee includes a provided lunch. Trophies/plaques will
be awarded through 5th place each day, with an Overall Champion award for both
days. First Place only to Best Sportsman each day.

Re: [RCSE] Multiplex EVO Batteries

Your Multiplex Evo must be different than mine.
My Evo 9 has six AA cells, arranged like this

   [][][]
   [][][]

The only things unusual about the pack is that 1) it's six rather than
eight cells, and 2) there's a fuse (polyfuse?) in the pack rather than
in the radio itself.

I don't remember exactly which connector it uses, but it wasn't that
unusual. I made my own pack for mine, and I found something sutiable
for a connector in my box o' parts.

Here's where you can buy the stock battery, at least for my radio --

[RCSE] JW turns GL pilots into top World F3J Team?!!!!

2008-06-30 Thread GordySoar
Hi Guys,

Big Kudo to JW and the NZ Team! They are filling out most of the top rungs
after the second round!
Its clear the boys have been practicing! Congrats Guys! (okay they haven't
flown GL's for a lot of years each :-).

Jojo is doing really well too, he's focus'd more this year I think, and his
scores are showing it.

Looks like Junior Jeff Walters caught a bad launch or just some bad luck,
he's got a pretty low first round...

DP BC and RB are all pacing themselves, not wanting to show their hand quite
yet :-).

Weather...here and there WINDY!
